My rifle shoots 1/2" groups @100 yards all day! Really? Prove it.

nice to see some more participants and people trying, it's a great chalange and taking these pictures and measurments will help people keep track of their improvment.
way to go guys.

A big " THANKS " to -- yodave & abbycat -- for helping out a Newby.

to -- Underthegun -- for the " challenge " & a good reason to go to the range!!!

Group sizes were --1-- .262 -- smallest group
2-- .382
3-- .447
4-- .437
5-- .272

Agg. = .360

Have another build that met the test but going for some computer lessons before i try to post the results !! Thanks Rob

I don't know how you are supposed to do this so I guess I will just ask. Is it possible to make this thread a sticky? Maybe even the one in the hunting rifle section too.

Another crack with the .223 today. -15 celcius. 37kph gusting to 50.

No luck. It is driver error. This shooting is going to drain me out of bullets for reloading. Started with a nice .267. Second target blew my second shot. I should crank my jewell up for the cold but.........................NAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. I touched off before I had my aim point, and ended with a .568. Target 3 was a .459. Target 4 a .585. Target 5 a .428. I had four into a .168 and pitched a shot out.

Will see if there is another attempt tommorrow.

The biggest thing out of this is BENCH MANNERS. All this shooting with the sporter stock should help me out when I pull the full blown rigs out for the season. At least I hope so.

Same here. I've got rifles that will easily do .5 MOA on my Hart front rest, but its more fun trying to get this factory .223 of mine there. I can't free recoil it as it will flop around on the spindly Hoppes front rest. So it's all repeatable technique for me and yes I keep pulling flyers more so in the winter. It's a good excuse for me to burn up old primers, bullets and powder. :)

No luck either. -15 today but winds were managable. Gave it 2 attempts but no go. I think I figured out how to shoot my Sporter stock today. Cannot free recoil it like I do my Bench rifles. It needs to be held fairly firm with slight tang pressure with my thumb not over the top of the grip but running parralel to the stock.

Lots of learning during this process. Like I said if anything I am learning a lot doing this.

First attempt.

.372
.437
.700 the end has come

Second attempt
.258
.647 the end has come
.898
This is when I said okay Mr., you know the rifle and you are better than that. I held like I mentioned above and shot a .262. Then I decided to try free recoil again and shot a .622. Went back to holding and shot a .297. On that last group 1 shot leaked out otherwise it was 4 into a .178................ Have I figured it out?????? Regardless the agg for 9 5 shot targets is a .499.

Rifle is getting cleaned and I am getting a bunch more loaded for the next trip out.

Basically it appears this Hart barrell will digest any 40gr bullet and shoot quite well. I have shot 40gr Nosler Varmageddons, 40gr V-max's, 40gr BK's and tried the lone box of 40gr Bergers and I am pleased with all.

I was going to put it into my Shehane Baby Tracker stock and try it in that configuration. I have the stock hogged out for bedding but am out of compound. The other issue is I needed a longer bolt to fit the front action hole but am out so I could not try it. I just wanted to prove to myself the difference a flat foreend makes over the rounded sporter.

When I get that stock bedded I am confident in what its abilities will be.

Back to the whiskey boys and girls.

Gotta admire you guy's living east of the Rocky's --- To pull off a " challenge " like this is tough enough, but to do it in weather conditions like that would be a ---

---- " Double Challenge " You talk about " Cheek Weld " -- Burrrrrrrrrrrrr. -- Hang in there, better weather ahead.

I failed miserably...

I think it's time to clean my barrel after around 600 rounds...

I'd get 3/5 which were tight, around .5 or less, but I always had two fliers, except one group, which only measured .605.

I'd LOVE to get a econo, non-bench gun on this list. Maybe I should run something better than AMAX's..

In either event, I'm way, way off from achieving this goal.

Ya, that one had me on the edge of my seat. Had to stop & walk downrange to measure - couldn't tell threw spotting scope.

Weather was about +5 to +8 with very lite crosswind. A good shooting day. Rob

Thanks Underthegun. Would never have done it if i had to shoot in " WINTER CONDITIONS " like you guys are having.

Rob

I hope the reason that I haven't been able to complete the challenge is because of the cold. Next weekend is supposed to be really warm (-2c). I am getting doubly frustrated because of the hunting rifle challenge as well. My Tikka T3 Lite 30/06 keeps giving me one bad group.

Will jump in and give it a try knowing that many many fellows have guns that will do it including tuned factory rifles.
Try my target print a copy or just place three toonies on your copier, better make lots
Have done 100 & 200 keep shot inside polarbear not tried it as yet at 300 y
good luck to all

How the heck "at 300yards" would you even see the toonie??? I have a redfield scope 6x18x44 and it would be tiny.
