My rifle shoots 1/2" groups @100 yards all day! Really? Prove it.

Sorry Jason. I can't count it. I copied this part of the requirements from the original post.

-take a picture of your target paper with all 5 groups visible in the picture. The group sizes must be written on the paper beside each group. **The paper must only have the 5 "official" groups on it.

Nice shooting regardless Jason. My next rifle I plan to get for walking the bean fields is a .222
It would be my "tweener" rifle to fill the gap between my 17HMR and the 6BR.
Better luck next time.

I have been shooting the triple Duce for years. Had many of them and I prefer it to a 22 ppc.

You can't go wrong with them. And these new Tikkas are very very forgiving

19-21 gr or imr 4198 and a CCI br primer and a 52-53 gr smk or Berger you are set.

If I am on my game these 222s can make you look good.

Never had the same luck with the 223 to this extent. I can't say my tikka varminter 223 will shoot 1/2 Moa on any given day. But to be honest I only got it and workin up loads.

And I still won't say there is a rifle/shooter/weather/conditions/temp than can shoot under 1/2 Moa every time u pull the trigger. I failed 2 times in poor conditions bad cross winds before I pulled it off and got DQed lol cause I used used a 8 target vs a 5 lol.

But one day I will get brave and shoot a 50 count string and see. Maybe when spring decides to show it's face lol

Regards.

Alright gentlemen, I have browsed these pages with great anticipation of trying this challange. I believe I have the required data to be accepted amongst the ranks of those who have succeeded.
The conditions were perfect today My buddys' family has a farm and the back deck overlooks his own 100 yard field. I loaded some ammo and headed over for a few hours of shooting. The rifle used is my custom remington 700 in 6mmbr. The barrel is a 13 twist Rob Maclennen with 3200 rounds through it and is showing no signs of slowing down. It will be a sad sad day for me when I do eventually burn it out. I use 32.2 grains of Varget under a 68 grain Berger bullet. Herre is my set up....

A look through the 25x Leupold

And the results
IMG_1583.jpg
[/IMG]
Groups areas follows 1-.312 2-.352 3-.425 4-.339 5-.409 for an average of .3674"

When shooting these groups I adjusted my scope on the third group to be POA = POI, but felt it was easier holding on the target dot and have my group land above so I clicked back. Mylastgroup I thought I blew as I forgot to reset the rifle in the bags and my second shot went low.....thus the vertical string.
Please judge. Am I Worthy

This is a pretty good stating point !! Say just like u have.

Same ?? Up to you ??

What about group sizes? .5" at 50. Or 1 moa. I don't shoot a lot of rimfire so I don't really know what would make a good challenge. Plus there is a big difference in all the different 22's out there. Are there many 22's capable of sub .5" groups at 50? Plus the semi vs bolt part of it too. As I write this, I think it might be a tough one to put together. But if anyone has some thoughts or ideas let me know.

The long established benchmark to qualify your rimfire as a "shooter" has always been 1/2" at 50yds. I think this is a good starting point, especially for semi-auto's and sporting .22 rimfires. If too many match rifles are qualifying then it could be further tightened up.

hey take this to the rimfire forum and figure it out..........less chatter and more centerfire group pictures............

thank you.......

my first attempt at the challenge

Thought this was going to be easy with my "new to me" 6 mm ppc. (not so much)

IMG_2329.jpgIMG_2332.jpgIMG_2334.jpgIMG_2330.jpg

The gun is a tight neck 6mm ppc with heavy stainless fluted barrel, don't know the manufacturer. It is a glue in to the stock, 2 ounce jewel trigger, 36 fixed power Baush and Lomb scope.
First picture is my first target ever with a generic load I made up, boy was I excited, .284 5 shot group in November of last year.
Last picture is from November when I was testing various charges, best 5 shot group was .284 with 26 grains of H322 and Berger 68 grain match moly coat bullets and worst was .625 with 25.6 grains of H322 and Berger 68 garain match moly bullets. seating depth is what the dies were set at when I recieved them with the rifle, appears to be a couple thou off the lands but haven't verified that yet just going by the barrel chamber sample that was done I think with the same reamer as the rifle that came with the gun, when I insert a loaded round into the cutout I can see that it almost touches the lands.
Once I settled on 26 grains I was getting groups between .206 and .392 in November and December.

Now for the part that really sucks. Loaded enough rounds to shoot the challenge with 10 extra as I have been having some fail to fire issues and need to go to the 205 primers as my remington bench rest ones seem to be too hard. Anyway as you can see on the second target I missed out by .011 (group was .511) First measured it as .497 but when I rechecked all the measurements I was off by .014 somehow.
Best .257, worst .511, average .4178.
What I can't figure out is how I could get the groups I did before in the cold miserable weather and when I get a good day with very little wind, light mirage, I got worst groups than when I started!! Now for the excuses, I didn't read the wind, shot 50 rounds of 44 mag and 50 rounds of 357 mag then went directly to the rifle range 30 feet away to do my "precision shooting"

I think though that I am going to go back to the hotter loads that I used to use in my old Sako single shot and load up in the 28 grain range of H322, will see how that does.

Just realised the last picture is pretty poor, hope these ones are better!
