My rifle shoots 1/2" groups @100 yards all day! Really? Prove it.

I cant wait to do this but no gun that can the only rifle I have left that doesn't need barreling or that isn't shipped away is my 10-22
makes for pretty big groups
when my rifles come in this summer or spring ill give it a try

Here's my failed attempt today.

Rifle Info: Sako TRG 22, S&B PMII 5-25x56 H58, Sako TRG Bipod Gen 2, TAB Rear Bag
Cartridge: Hornady Match BTHP .308 Win
Conditions: 100M, Benchrested, 7 Degrees C, minimal to no wind, overcast, slightly drizzling, no mirage

Group Sizes: 0.450"; 0.476"; 0.684"; 0.360"; 0.592"

On the 0.684" and the 0.592", I realized I jerked the trigger on the first shots. I've only been shooting centerfire rifles since May so I'm sure a better shooter can pull this off with the TRG.

I might as well post my failed attempt. If I had not messed up on two shots I would have made it. Oh well, I will get it right next time.

J996 - That back rest looks a bit shaky - could be good kindling though:) I'd bet if you put it in bags, results would be better.

I'm with JEC on this one. Also ( and notwithstanding what is alleged to have been done with the Nemisis rifle on other threads ) I don't think the monopod is the greatest for this type of game. Great effort though and a fabulous looking rifle !

Hi everyone!
I just found this thread and am definitely in!

Here's a 100m group with my 260Rem. I'll get out asap and try the 5 group challenge!
Load is:
-123gr AMAX
-40.5gr Varget
-2.82" OAL

Well I took JEC and Tomochan's advice and ditched the ground spike for a TAB rear bag. It is more stable and easier to make adjustments with. My consistency has improved and I managed to shoot smaller groups than last time although I again failed to meet the challenge.

I am having difficulty holding my position steady for 25 rounds in a row. Do you guys take breaks in between groups? Any other tricks that could help a guy keep it together?

J9 - Your hold is good enough to go all five ...nice shooting ... Suggest you make sure the stock is sliding smooth in the rear bag and not hanging up on anything. Not much slide required, but it must be consistent so set it back to the same "sweet spot" each time.

JEC- Thank you I will give that a try.

Chago - Scope was dialed off center on purpose to keep my aiming point clear;)

Well, Here's my second attempt at this Challenge. I thought I had it in the bag from the bench but seems like I still got some work to do.
I tried using the monopod I just recently installed but it's too hard for me to keep it steady windage wise so I used a rear bag.

The scope was not sighted in 100% ( it was shooting a bit left for the first two groups - top left and centre)
I had a flier on the first shot of my 5th group (bottom right) so I chased it to try to keep the challenge alive.

I'd like to try this again soon. I have this thought that I'm squeezing the bag slightly as I squeeze the trigger... but maybe not and I'm just making excuses :)
