My rifle shoots 1/2" groups @100 yards all day! Really? Prove it.

You are right. Wrong time of year. We'll let the guy's play with this one for awhile and maybe start a new one with hunting rifles in the spring. Maybe someone else (Underthegun as it was your idea) can start it up in May as I for one don't have a rifle that capable. I might be able to do 3/4" but not 1/2".
By the way, good thread Underthegun. Intersting read.

As soon as the snow clears out from the range I will post another stock action savage with a beautiful blue laminate stock that will make the challenge.
 
Had to give it another go today! About the same temp as the other day! Here's what I got!
Smallest group 0.316" Average group 0.606" Largest group 0.819"

This was my attempt from this past Sunday. I tried Friday, Saturday, and Sunday in Horrific conditions. You can see on the bottom of the target what the conditions were like. I would be REALLY DISAPPOINTED if the conditions get better and I cannot make it................. :-.....................

The first was the .359 then I thought I would try a TOTALLY NEW load. I had dabbled with the 40gr BK and Benchmark but my main load was with 133 and my other load with a powder blend. From looking back at some old targets I decided to go up 3/10ths of a grain and give it a shot. Will definately try that load again. Then the .641 blew it all. If I could have kept the left shot in the group I would still be cooking. If anyone says wind does nothing to a bullet at short distance, you need to shoot a BR match.
 
Just read through the thread and have to give props to the guys in Ontario trying this one in -20ish temps. You are giving credibility to the "NUTZ" in Canadian gun nutz. Actually to anyone who goes to the trouble of trying it and furthermore posting pictures! Wind and mirage are one thing in nice weather but shivering and dealing with trying to avoid getting condensation from your breath in the cold are another. Not to mention what load works when it is warm doesn't always in the cold. Great to see the guys with the smaller calibers pulling it off.....hey where did all the guys with the 300wsm tikka's go? :) Thanks for the entertainment.

Here is my rifle as I shot the groups. It is a custom Remington 700 in 308 that was done up by Alberta Tactical rifles. The scope Is a Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-14X40

Who is going to get out and give it a try this weekend? I think the weather is supposed to be pretty nice in most places. I will be giving it a try again on Saturday.
 
I tried again today and failed again. 2 of my groups were under .500" but 3 of them were over. I still managed to average .467" the temp was -17c with no wind. But the lack of wind caused lots of mirage from the barrel heat. It is going to be nicer out tomorrow so I will try it again.

I tried twice today with known loads for that barrel. It's officially retired. Going to cut off a few inches at the chamber and muzzle and try a fresh rechamber in .223 Wylde. If it don't shoot then it's the scrap heap or may turn it down for an AR15 barrel.
Will screw on the original factory barrel and try some other loads next week or tomorrow maybe.
Good try Underthegun. We know the rifle is capable.
 
I have it a shot as well. I shot better in the cold and wind. I could not even get 2 groups in a row. I had the first one in a .4 them had a nice .1-.2 going and had one drop where are you out. I think I need to tweak the load or ??????????

Will load up for tommorrow and give it another go.
 
Hey rod, Calvin....you guys are close......obviously the weather is not playing much of a factor in this for both of you, its just a matter of time before your both in the club.......If it helps any I failed earlier in the week with a Tikka T3 light in 222 rem......I am still tring to pull it off, and I would like to do it with a factory rifle/barrel to match more of those internet claims......I know I can do it with a shillen....thats a given.......My biggest draw back is leaning to shoot a sporter stock again...guess I am to use to the 3 inch wide benchrest stocks now and all I really have to do is pull the trigger..........
