My rifle shoots 1/2" groups @100 yards all day! Really? Prove it.

Got out to give this a shot today. Didnt make it but it was fun trying!

This was what I was shooting.
IMAG0166_zpsc560d0c1.jpg

77gr matchkings over 24.5 gr of varget.
IVI brass.
Fed 205m primers.

I as well failed. Made 2 attempts at it. I did learn something though.

My load with the 40gr V-max's is good but not good enough for the challenge. It will spit the odd shot. I believe the V-max is not capable of this challenge in my rifle.

The 40gr Nosler and the 40gr BK's are repeatable. The Noslers are hands down the best bullet. The problem is I only have 200 left and have NO idea when the store is getting its Nosler order. I am not wasting them at this time. I knew they were a good bullet but as the supply is low I need to hang on to them. When I get my supply I will most definately be back at this. They are by far my best bullet.

The BK's kind of the same idea a bit low and do not want to run out. They shoot better than the v-max's as well but not as good as the Noslers. I wanted to do this challenge with the V-max bullets as I have a larger supply and I thought they could do it.

I WILL CONQUER THIS CHALLENGE WITH THE REM 700 .223 REMINGTON.....................................

I will try again next weekend.

what brass are you using calvin? the one flier in every other group would have me concerned........I know that you know all to well about brass prep and case sorting but I am curious as to what brand headstamp...also what primer?

I will be the first to admit that I am not putting tons of effort into my Rem 700 rifles. All the time, money and energy goes into the BR rifles.

No I am not using Lapua brass. I am using Winchester. I am not weight sorting. Just doing primer pockets, flash holes and making sure brass is trimmed at all times. Primers I am using up a HUGE stash of CCI450's.

Either component could be an issue.

It just seems to me after the last 2 days that the cheap Nosler Varmaggedons, and the BK's do not spit shots. Those $18.00 Varmageddons have given me groups in the 1/2" mark and smaller at 200. I just had some of each loaded up from before and shot them in between the V-max groups. This is what I am basing this on.

I have been looking at the targets again from today or the other possibility is that the V-Maxs are a little more wind sensitive than the other 2??? They are FB bullets while V-Max is BT.

I don't lose sleep over it. If it were my PPC's that would be a different story.

I think the quality control on the V-max line has been sliding, your not the only one getting a weird flier with the Vmax.....and that is with prepped lapua brass in a 223 as well.....you can't beat the price, but at the same time the money you save definately has an effect on consistancy when it comes to accuracy..I thought my 22-250 barrel was shot out....changed bullets and I was back to shooting consistant groups again.......

.511moa average----I tried and failed today. Please note this was with a untested load so will be back to try again. Was a "warm" day so dressed to stay cosy and headed out. I think that I am just a wuss and need to bring some firewood for the next try. Had frost forming from my breath but no problems with the action or folder etc. Will need to develop a load too for the new rifle. Now have 47 rounds down the pipe in total including getting it sighted in:D Things are only going to get better with this one!

Calvin, I'm pretty sure a load of 52gr Bergers will get you there.
I replaced my factory .223 barrel back in its BDL stock like yours to even the playing field. I've tweaked the trigger to 1lb and it's pillar bedded. Other than that this rifle is stock and did shoot under .5 MOA for 4 groups last summer so I think it very possible to repeat it this winter. I do have the target in my files, but doesn't qualify in this challenge. I'm using Remington brass with 205m primers and military surplus WC735 powder with 55grs Bergers. Nothing really match prepped at all either. This is just my plinker.

All the best with those 40grs. and the winds you're shooting in.

I'll start by saying, excellent thread!
I went out this morning thinking this would be easy, uh uh... My conditions were poor, but that's not an excuse, I don't know if I can do it. My first three groups were good, my .181 is my personal best, but it takes a lot of dicipline to do it five times in a row. If I had taken a break after the third group, I may have succeeded. I'll try that next time.

My rifle; Rem 700, .223 throated for 90gr VLDs, 28" barrel, RB trigger, AICS 2.0, Mpod, and Sightron 10-50x60. This picture is from last month I believe, too wet for a camera today.

This was my second attempt, my first was similar. I'm happy with the average.

9X19P, this challenge is very similar to a BR match. The difference is you want to shoot 20 5 shot groups as SMALL as possible to win the entire match. 10 at 100 and 10 at 200. At 100 you want to see 5 shot groups no bigger than .250 and at 200 around the .500 or less. Preferablyin the 3's and 4's. That is a challenge.

The biggest thing I am enjoying with this challenge is trying to discipline myself on my bench manners and not squeezing till things are right.

Gotta love it, love it, love it.

I shot 9 groups today. The average worked out to .4677. It sounds good but just could not get a string of 5.

Once I get a good load worked out with both my .308 shooting the 175 otms and my 6xc shooting the 105 hybrids I'll give it a shot with an actual bolt gun. I'll take a few more cracks with my AR next time I'm out. Good fun!

This thread is like a breath of fresh air :)
To actually see you guys step up to the plate and show your reults is refreshing.
I see no winners or losers, just a bunch of guys who can really shoot, and dont mind showing that they failed to meet the requirment.

I wish you all good luck in this challenge and will be watching closely.........Me, I'm happily trying to get my 308 under 1moa, and having a blast doing it :)

Its all about fun eh :)

This weekend's load development proved that my the bedding job I recently completed has bumped my gun into the .5MOA ability by shooting two groups (of load development) sub .5MOA.

I'd love to someday shoot 5 in a row. When I do, I'll post it up! I might attempt this weekend but don't expect it to be easy.

700 SPS 20" .308 1-10 appears to like the 44.5gr Varget, 178AMAX, Lapua Brass, CCI-BR2. Still needs fine tuning but 44.5 seems to be a load where slight variences in powder volume don't affect it much.

On another high note, I hit a target at 1899 yards with my buddies 300win mag. That was pretty good moment!

I keep trying to get out and try this but something always seems to get in the way. I doubt I'll succeed but I want to see how close I'll come. Excellent thread / idea.
