My scope doesn't fot my 22, Suggestions?

Hey all,

I have a Savage 64f semi-auto 22. I got a new scope for it which is a Bushnell 4-12x40 with A/O. When I mount it on my 22 the front part of the scope, I guess the exit of the scope touches the barrel. I then can't turn the A/O and if I look at the scope in the ring, it's not in there properly. I am wondering what I have to do to make this fit as I just got the rings and I am sure there is another way to get other then buying new rings. I swear like 3 mm would be enough room.

Any help would be great

How do I measure something that I don't know the size? I never bought these rings for this scope, they were for another scope. There has to be something else that can be done.
 
take the whole package rifle and all to either a smith or lebarons and say i need rings to make this scope fit on this rifle. also if your going into lebarons with the rifle they dont like it to much if it s not cased LOL
 
Are you serious? I just got $60 rings like 1 month ago and now I have to get rid of it? crappy ... myabe a 4-12x40 would be good on my shotgun.

I didn't know rimfire rings came in differant sizes

the problem sounds like the 40mm objective lense is too big to be used with your rings.sorry,but either change the rings or change the scope to one that has a smaller objective lense.

Save the scope for another gun, keep the rings on your gun, and buy a Bushnell Banner 3.5-10 X 36mm?

Or grind 3mm off the top of barrel where the scope touches it. :p

You're probably wondering if you can somehow shim the rings to elevate the scope but I doubt if you can do that. Just buy higher rings. They're not that expensive.
 
if it had a weaver base i could send you a set of weaver style high rings bought them when i bought a new scope found i could get away with medium rings LOL

Yeah, I had a 3-9x33 and it was ok but I couldn't see far enough with it so I got this one.

I wish I could just shim the barrel but I have no tools

I guess I will just have to buy new rings but that sucks.

I have weaver rings and they blow because when you tighten them, it turns the scope a little bit so I wanted Leupold rings but I can't see to find rimfire rings at Lebarons or SIR. Burris is $70 for rings and everything is atleast $50 except for the rings I got which were made by weaver.

why not mark it then take to your local smith to grind it *the barrel* down where you need that extra little bit and re blue that section ? all you really have to do is just make a flat spot on the barrel

The one's from Illingworth Imports are pretty good and not that pricey. I got the 1" 9-11MM Match Mount.

It's a stainless barrel. I would rather get new rings then go to a smith and wait 2 weeks and pay out my ass for them to grind it down 3mm

Crap those are cheap. Are you sure they will be able to handle a 22? I know the recoil isn't alot but I want to make sure my scope doesn't get loose due to rapid fire as most the screws on the 22 have come loose even after I already tightened them.
 
It says on their site "Fits 22`s and airguns" and they do seem quite solid. I have them on my Toz-78 and one of my CIL/Anschutz's. The 9-11mm will fit the 3/8 dovetail size (9.5250 mm)
 
Well after looking at Burris's website, they do have .22 rings but they are like $45.99 at Wholesale for the Signature series rings which I guess are their best rings and it's $38.99 for their standard rings.


k98, thanks for clairfying that. I will look more into it as it seems like a good cheap solution.
 
You could shim under the scope to raise it up if the ring screws are long enough. This may not look the best but for a 22 it may work depending on how high you have to go. Use brass shims.
