My search for a compact pistol ends: Glock,SiG,Norinco,HK,Para (Some pics for fun)

Here's my experience!

I love compact pistols. Revolvers too. And yes, I am 12(6) grandfathered. However, quite a few of the pistols I would love to try are not available in Canada as 12(6); mostly too new.

I've mostly been a 1911 or nuthin' guy forever. Lately I've decided to give other types an honest test drive, for no other reason than because...

Given all the chatter about the Glock 19, I started there. I've shot numerous Glock 17's and 22's, but just hate the grip angle and ergonomics. Many say the compact 19/22 size is the answer.

I find the G19 just >this< close to feeling great in my hands. The only trouble seems to be that with my grip, my thumb knuckle rides just high enough to get cut by the slide. All my attempts to remedy this have resulted in slow, awkward draws, adjusting my firing grip midstream, or a less comfortable compromise in grip position.

From my observations, the design of the Glock frame does allow for a very low bore axis above the firing grip; this is good. However, the shape of the frame with it's high grip causes me to have to enter the trigger guard with my finger at a downward angle from above; this isn't conducive to great trigger control for me.

Otherwise, my opinion of Glocks has improved at least a hundredfold. The finish on the metal parts is excellent, the trigger action really isn't bad at all, and function and accuracy have been flawless.

I also spent quite a few hours stripping the gun down and really examining the design elements of the action; I must credit Gaston Glock for designing such a SIMPLE pistol. It's really remarkable just how simple the whole thing is, and how it functions.

I do feel that the design of the mag release is poor however. Having the right side of the mag release project out from the frame while depressing the release button seems like a bad idea; when turning the pistol in the grip to reach the button, one has to be conscious that you don't prevent the opposite side from coming out with the index or middle finger of the right hand.

So now I have my G19 for sale or trade; I'd like to try a sub-compact Glock just to see if the change in grip height makes a difference for me... I've posted a want to test drive thread, but nobody up here seems to have one.

Given my usual affinities, I of course would love a compact 1911, however I'd also like to give a Sig pistol a fair try; I've always hated the horrible long trigger reset on all the Sigs I've shot, but would really like to try one with the SRT system.

Time will tell.

I don't supposed a H&K p9s would be considered a compact but it is thinner than my Star PD an its 1/2 '' longer.
