My STEN project...

I wonder why those are all blued bolts...? Originally all bolts were white. Nice barrels. I have an original or two myself, though my last built used a newly made bolt - just for the heck of it.

PS: I have the same Ikea table - LOL

hmm all i see claven is 10 likely counts of importing prohibited weapon parts

possibly exporting from the us MG parts without an export permit

and 10 possible ITAR violations

Now that is the nicest assortment of Sten goodies I have seen since the early 80'S when I worked with a dealer who owned hundreds of Stens as well as many other F/A's and dewats! Hey! The "shoes" are at least patriotic with the flag on 'em! There's nothing illegal about owning any number of sten bolts and barrels is there fellas? I thought it was the reciever on a mk1 or 3 and the mag housing on a mk2 or 5 that was "naughty" here in Canada now? By the way, I have seen many blued bolts when I worked with that dealer. Some were in the white but many were blued. I owned a C/A Mk3 with a 'in the white" bolt and a MkII with a blued one.

For the record, I bought all my Sten parts in Canada. Most came from old-style dewats, others from parts kits out of India that were floating around gunshows back in the 70's.

You guys are ruining a good thread. I came here only out of curiosity, having no build skills. Can this get lower?

Deckard, if you want to read build details without all the chatter, try the milsurps.com build thread in the gunsmithing section. All the same info, but filtered.

Most have read the looooong discussions about exports from the US, and imports into Canada. Anyone who has read Shotgun News, or searched the web will have noticed a wide variety of machinegun parts kits for sale in the US. Prices have been as low as 3/$100 for ex-Finn Mk. III Stens. Export/import of machinegun parts is a legal minefield. Apart from demils, dewats, dismantled FA and CA guns, there is no really comparable source of parts in this country. For example, Suomi kits have been sold by Cope's Distributing for $99.95, and an 80% finished receiver, with barrel mount and sideplates has been sold by Prexis. These are US sources. Is there any legal way (on both sides of the border) these components could make it into Canada? Let alone the appropriate magazines?

Anyway, I apologize to NavyShooter for this hijack of his thread. He is, of course, free to delete this and other posts not contributing to his excellent account of his experiences in building and registering an unquestionably legal version of the historic Mk. II Sten.

Why bother with the paranoid US at all, they are not worth the trouble.

It's a big world out there, and the US is not the only supplier.

That is entirely true, of course. There may well be countries that allow the unregulated export of machinegun parts.

claven i was refering to spencers pic of HIS parts

NOT to your parts

maybe he did obtain them here in canada who knows?

feel free to delete all the non build comments from me......

so any test fire news yet???

so who has a magwell jig? for a mk3

I cut my mk3 magwell up when stencollector was informed the magwell was the reciever

A dance involving a welding torch.

Earlier in the thread are photos of jigs being used to make the magazine housing.

Would welding up a destroyed magwell not be considered a re-weld of a FA gun (e.g. prohibited?)

Yes. That would be the interpretation in all probability.
That is why a new - made from scratch - magazine housing was shown being made in this thread.

What parts of the magwell constitute the controlled part, is it every single part combined, is it just the box section ?
