Life is short. Too many people around me have died of cancer this past year and I figured it's time to sell a bunch of my Remmy 700 builds and buy a Surgeon 591 for a tactical build of some sort. I figured from Mystic Player's advice about building and blueprinting an M700 action, I may as well spend the entire $$$ on a custom tactical receiver; great advice from the master! I had to buy one!!
Here is what it looks like out of the plastic bag, as it arrived from R P S Intn'l in Spruce Grove, AB.

Another picture of the "in-the-white" finish...
Notice the bolt release, easier to deal with when hanging the trigger assembly, the factory M700 Rem trigger is goofy hanging on there with the spring that allows the bolt release to work well. It's a tough install.
So because I am a military / parkerizing kind of guy (and I can Cerakote or DuraKote down the road), I just had to degrease and parkerize it in my garage tonight.
Here are the after parkerizing pictures with lots and lots of oil on the freshly 'etched' surface. Remember that the phosphoric acid "etches" the metal surface, making it rougher and more able to hold the protective oil to it. It plain and simple looks tacticool...
As you can see, the bolt handle and the shroud are likely made with a little more stainless content in them so the phosphoric acid ain't going to do it's magic here.
The bolt body darkened a fair amount, but nowhere near as BLACK (reminds me of M14 TRW black ) as the receiver came. Life is good!
Now it's ready for the barrel (well, I gotta parkerize that too) to be fitted and headspaced for my .260 Rem build.
Will keep you all posted as this project carries on with it's journey. It's not the destination.... it's the journey!
Next week, I'm having my .260 Rem factory M700 barrel fitted to this receiver. More pics to come after the project comes together. It's all good fun!
Enough said!
Cheers,
Barney
