I didn't know whether this belongs in milsurp or hunting...so I'm posting it here.
I had been looking for something to use as a dedicated deer rifle as I'm a total rookie and still had doubts about using my M305 or Mosin. After weeks of looking online I decided on this M96 Sporter from Tradex...kind of fell in love with it for some reason. I don't know why, it just seemed to be calling my name. I had been thinking about a .243 or .270 previously and just couldn't make my mind up. I split the difference and went with the 6.5x55...it intrigued me and I feel adds some flavour. Nobody I know has heard of it before and I kinda like that.
Haven't shot it yet as I'm still waiting for scope/ammo to show up but I'm anxious to throw some lead down range. The rifle fits me like a glove (I really like target style stocks) and shoulders/points nicely. It's almost the same length as my Mosin but feels much more comfortable. It has a few character dents in the stock so I won't cry if I bang it up a bit. Blueing is in nice shape and the action is smooth and solid. Bore is very nice. The ####-on-close will take some getting used to. I just need to find a sling that suits the rifle...either something milsurp or maybe leather. A nylon sling just doesn't seem right for this one.
