I didn't know whether this belongs in milsurp or hunting...so I'm posting it here.

I had been looking for something to use as a dedicated deer rifle as I'm a total rookie and still had doubts about using my M305 or Mosin. After weeks of looking online I decided on this M96 Sporter from Tradex...kind of fell in love with it for some reason. I don't know why, it just seemed to be calling my name. I had been thinking about a .243 or .270 previously and just couldn't make my mind up. I split the difference and went with the 6.5x55...it intrigued me and I feel adds some flavour. Nobody I know has heard of it before and I kinda like that.

Haven't shot it yet as I'm still waiting for scope/ammo to show up but I'm anxious to throw some lead down range. The rifle fits me like a glove (I really like target style stocks) and shoulders/points nicely. It's almost the same length as my Mosin but feels much more comfortable. It has a few character dents in the stock so I won't cry if I bang it up a bit. Blueing is in nice shape and the action is smooth and solid. Bore is very nice. The ####-on-close will take some getting used to. I just need to find a sling that suits the rifle...either something milsurp or maybe leather. A nylon sling just doesn't seem right for this one.

You'll love it. I own 3 Swedes including a sporter like yours. If you reload, this cartridge likes IMR 4350. Mild recoil and a flat trajectory makes this round great for deer. Swedes are awesome shooters! I guarantee. Enjoy

I'm willing to bet even money that this will not be your last Swede, they have a tendency to multiply,at least around my place. Can't get enough of them it seems.

You will be happy with it. My 6.5x55 (old sporterized Mauser ) is second in accuracy only to my Sako that was 4x the price. Great value. If you handload you can drastically increase the performance.

Perfect round for deer with amazing penetration.

Yes, it's possible to put a scope on a CG63 or 80. It needs D&T and a bit of fitting, but it's an easy job for a skilled gunsmith.

She is a beauty!!! I recently got one myself (from a member here on the EE). It is a great shooter. Mine is sported with a cut down military stock and it also feels great when put to the shoulder. I may put a scope on it. Very pleasant to shoot and smooth as a baby's butt to cycle. The #### on close should not bother you at all.

If you buy a CG63 or 80, then, what you get is a 300m target rifle. The sight are target peep rear and tunnel with insert front.

I love the look of that Swede! Another big plus is the fact that Trade Ex moved
from Socialist Quebecistan to Ontario....Hooray! I'm now pondering on which
rifle to buy from them next...either a Swede like your one or a K31 Swiss.
Arrrgh!

Is the CG63 and 80 single shot target rifles.. I Googled the 63 and from what I can tell it is about a 10 pound gun ..
But there was nothing that said it is was a single shot or not .. Barrel length .. etc ..

Thanks guys, I'm really happy with it so far. My scope and ammo came in, I just haven't had a chance to get out and punch any paper yet. I cleaned it all up last night and re-oiled/greased everything and gave the stock a wipe down with a waxed cloth. I discovered the action is bedded. There were some antique pine needles in the barrel channel.

I dropped a 4-12 Diamondback on it in medium rings. There is already a groove on the front handguard cover so the scope isn't touching anything. The safety and bolt just clear the scope. Makes cycling the action a little awkward but I'll get used to it...as I said the #### on close is new for me so that's not helping. I haven't seen a sling yet that I like so I'm using the cheap chinese one that came with my M305 (it's wearing a BFG VCAS).

I think the CG63's are basically the same as what I have except they will have the sights and an unmodified bolt handle. It may or may not come with an upgraded trigger. I've got a 5 round internal mag in mine. You can drop the floor plate but it's not as easy as a Mosin. You have to use a rod or punch and press on a button in a recessed hole on the floor plate and then slide the floor plate back to release it and it will drop free with the spring and follower.
