My Tavor sling setup

I'm a firm believer that every good rifle needs an equally good sling. So when I picked up my new Tavor last week, I quickly realized there was no way in hell I was about to entrust my new 5k investment to a seatbelt taken out of an old russian lada, and 2 knots. I scanned the forums for a better alternative but couldn't find a one stop shop for what I needed. IMO, this set up once completed should serve anyones purpose.

This is what I've come up with.

A 2 point/1 point convertible sling with quality mounts, and best of all, no knots.

Details from the front, to back:
-1 "HK clip" ($5.99) hooks nicely to the front swivel and will clip to the Magpul MS3 adapter in 1 point configuration.
-1 "VCAS" sling($49.99), the franks red hot of rifle slings in my inventory. Its all I'll use, and all you should use (thanks to darren at OSTS for converting me)
-1 Magpul MS3 adapter with QD mount ($24.99)
-1 Magpul QD socket($17.49) (or Mesa Tactical 870 QD socket as some have suggested)
-1 Gearhead works FLEX swivel.($65.00) **not featured in this install, still waiting on its delivery**
Works out to approx. $165.00 for the sling setup. Which, on a 2500 dollar rifle, is a drop in the bucket.

The only tricky part was mounting the QD socket to the rifle. **Note, this only applies to the Magpul QD mount. I was lucky to find it at a local shop here in Calgary, you may have a different process for the Mesa brand QD mount**

The machine screw that comes stock with the Magpul QD mount was only 1" long and wasnt nearly long enough to fit through the rear sling hole on the Tavor. Without having the rifle on hand, I spent about an hour in the home depot hardware aisle trying to assemble the parts needed on the fly. Ended up getting a handful of different length machine screws to determine that a 2" will suit this purpose.

For this you'll need the following:
-(1) 13/16 x 2" machine screw
-1 or 2 washers of appropriate size (your preference)

How to assemble these should be pretty self-explnatory, but should look like this once its done.

The QD socket itself sticks up approx. 1" which Isn't terrible, but leaves something to be improved. In the future I plan to drill out the sling hole slightly wider to incorporate the QD mount flush with the body of the rifle.

The only part I'm still waiting on is a FLex mount from Zahal. Once its installed its going to give this rifle a true 2pt/1pt convertible sling option. I'll update the thread once it arrives.
Like I said previously, I think this sling configuration really improves the "carry-ability" of the rifle. Hopefully this will make it a little easier for new Tavor owners.
Now all that's left is to size the sling, wrap up any excess sling with your tactical duct-tape to improve your accuracy by 15%, and head out to the range.

All I need now is for TVPP to show me where he shoots his tavor around here.....

Did you found any QD socket for the front... I'd like to have them in front and rear to be able to set up my sling like your, but I have QD swivel each end of my VCAS...

I have installed the Gearhead works FLEX swivel, love it... perfect for a single point... but like to have option for 2 points sling...

No I never considered replacing the front loop with a QD socket. I found the HK clip works perfectly. Combined with the ms3, its gives you the same desired effect.
Might need to look at replacing the front attachment on your sling.

I am working on something I will show in the future. ;)

I'm happy with this setup though I plan to drill and sink the rear socket at some point.
I LOVE my VCAS!!

Most of the Manticore fore ends have one... but a little hard to source...

^^^ Yes will be nice to have more infos on the front sling mount...

Because a Manticore fore ends will be a plan B for me... or replacing the front attachment on my sling as last action...

Due to popular demand,
I knew I could do a QD setup like this with the right fastener and a little shaping.
Disassemble and shape the plastic on the side of the firearm you want the QD socket on.

I used a die grinder and ended up oblonging the hole a little but no matter.
Insert QD socket and add an M4x35 I used 35mm but think 40mm would be better) Flat Head Counter sink machine screw.

It is nice and secure and I like that it looks stock.

.....Also, nice rail... try shooting with it yet?:stirthepot2:

Lol! I have not but I did find screws to secure it till mine make it home. :)

Am I the only one that find the stock sling usable? Ya, I can't go to a single point but I wouldn't want to either. I've always preferred a two point with the rifle hanging at my front, even with a c7.

For me upgrading the sling would be just buying a new mounting system and fancier sling but it would be the exact same setup.

I also run the factory sling on my Tavor. It holds the rifle fine with no problems. I tied the ends nice and tight, then melted them with a lighter and pressed them with some pliers.

Would I trust this exact setup in full combat. No probably not. But my application, it works just fine.

Forgive my ignorance as I have never handled a Tavor. Your front swivel is on the left side, would it not be better to have the rear swivel on the left side too? (For a right hand shooter)

A friend of mine uses the factory sling and paracord. His step son's best friend is a sargent in the IDF. He took a look at my friends setup when he was visiting while on leave and said he had it correct. Said they use paracord as it doesn't make any noise like the other methods do. I guess that's not really a concern for us.

I've watched that video several times and I think the Savvy Sniper sling is the way I'm going to go.

Pondering the Key Mod extended fore end to add some weight to the front end. Just concerned that it going to be added on a pretty hefty carbine to begin with.

I ran one from the start of thier availabilty up until about 2 months ago. Finally realised how little I gained from having it other than more weight. Neat idea, looks cool, but if it is not really helping then it os probably more of a hinderance.

Idk anymore about whats ideal, but I know after having used one for months I ended up taking it off and selling it.

TV-PressPass said something to me after he got back from SHOT SHOW that has kinda stuck. He said that while he was talking to the Israeli IWI reps at IWI US' booth they made the comment of "Why?" towards the numerous aftermarket parts, namely the rails and handguards.

This has been echoing around in my head. At first I thought it was because they were being snobish like you would expect HK guys to be (as in "we produce a perfect product that can not be improved and should not be modified"), but then as I though harder I realised it was likely because they could see there was no true advantage to *most* of the aftermarket parts, most of which have potential negative effects such as:
-weight
-increased height over bore
-disrupted ergonomics

Modification is great, just don't loose sight of what your goal for that platform was when you started.
