My vegan girlfriend wants to come hunting with me

Her intentions are good fellas. She comes from a family of hunters. Her sister popped a 150 whitetail last year. I'm excited to take her out. She's very aware that I'm not some bloodthirsty redneck and actually value and respect life. Should be really cool.
 
Respect that she is trying. No pictures that might come back to haunt you.. Make sure it's a clean ethical kill. Use as many parts as you can. Awfuls for pet food if you don't eat them. Hide drop of to another hunter or Hutterite colony. No waste there. Explain that Mother Nature's other animals need to eat also. Takes of the carcass etc.... You get my point. I agree. There are lots of reasons for being vegan and they are not all mutually exclusive of hunting. It is always surprising for me when I see gun owners/hunters not wanting to be judged by people who have limited knowledge of what we do and then turn around and do the same to others.

A good friend of mine that I hunt with has a son who doesn’t eat commercially produced meat but has no problem enjoying wild game of all sorts. He is a young man with conviction and I cannot help but respect that. Most vegans I know, like hunters and gun owners, come in shades of grey...the black and white ones often still have some learning to do.

My wife's vegan for the reasons noted above. I am very much not. She's on numerous occasions encouraged me to get into hunting - she feels that if one is going to eat meat, environmentally and ethically hunting is far more justifiable than supporting a needlessly inhumane factory farming industry. Unfotunately I am both too busy and too lazy to hunt, when Costco is only a few minutes away!

Surprisingly, not all vegans are crazy, lefty hippies.

Good luck with that perhaps you can explain what the steps are to prepare a deer for transport after the kill and see her reaction.
 
Is she secure? or accompanying you as a means to show she cares?
or concern where you are going for a week to keep an eye on you?
Maybe just wants some time away with you and knowing vegas is out hunting is her best bet?


Believe it or not as far as hunting goes now its not always about getting an animal but more of about the fun of getting away from the world for a few days and reconnecting with nature and spending time with friends and family.
 
My fiance is somewhat of a vegan. Won't eat any commercial animal products but has no problem eating locally harvested and hunted game. There's plenty of vegans out there that don't fill the typical vegan stereotype. Just like how not all gun owners/hunters fill the stereotype.
 
One of my buddy's had a vegan girlfriend. She did have respect for my hunting ethic and when he started hunting with me. She decided to try some when they came for a visit because she said it smelled so good. Jump forward a couple years and she is now an avid hunter.

I don’t think farmers have an image problem per se, it is large scale factory farming that some have an issue with. I have huge respect for all farmers and while I have crossed paths with many who don’t like guns, I don’t think I have met a single person who didn’t like farmers.
