My XCR-L 223 experience....?

Anyone else have this experience?

I bought a newer version of the aforementioned.
- new enhanced trigger
- stock.....stock (non-folding)
- heavy barrel

....I was blown away by how excellent this thing is.

The darn thing shot and handled amazingly well.

*One of most (physically) solid combat rifle I have ever used. Like an FN FAL. I know AKMs are reliable, but I mean 'solid.'

*Amazing trigger that releases at about 3.5lbs, with a nice, wide, flat surface that is so instinctively easy to push against perpendicularly.

*Chucked brass about 30 feet on '3' gas setting / about 8-10 feet on '1' setting with zero failures in about 500rds so far.

*removed the bolt carrier immediately after shooting session - no burned-on carbon or heat. Nice.

* shot as accurately as my duty Diemaco C8 with irons and a reddot, and cleaned up in about a 1/3 of the time.

* shot it at a friends property, and will be coyote hunting with it shortly thanks to the N/R status.

In short; a very, very positive experience.

I have heard so much negativity about this gun, but surely, someone else must've had a similar experience to mine.

And to be fair.....

Compared to the Diemaco C8, it is heavier and not as nimble, and does have a slightly snappier recoil impulse. While it doesn't have 40 years of aftermarket R & D, this is a damn good rifle now that many of the earlier kinks have been worked out.

Is the heavy barrel the stock barrel ? Or is that special order? Good to hear though. I love my XCR-L reliable and well engineered.

Good point. Stock barrel, which by comparison is heavier than the average AR/C8. 1:9 twist apparently :( I've only shot 55gr so the slower twist rate was not noticeable. Hopefully, 1:9 works with some heavier stuff.
 
My xcr experience was great also, shot great and never had a problem. Worth the money if you ask me. So many people that don't own them day negative stuff because they aren't battle proven, which means nothing.
 
Well they aren't battle proven which means they aren't a combat rifle! but like you say that doesn't matter as I love my XCR-L in .223 and x39 as well. I want a 6.8 kit for it and I want a XCR-M one day as well.

I too am considering a 6.8 kit for deer. That's an amazing thought considering its essentially a "black" rifle.
 
I dont regret for a second by my xcr-l 223... its awesome and have had nothing but fun... still not a single ftf or fte. i love this gun.
 
I have the .223 and 6.8 kits for my rifle and they both work flawlessly. The only down side to 6.8 is ammo availability and pricey if you aren't into reloading. On Van Island a box of Remington Premier CORE-LOKT costs around $45-50.

I've taken a coyote, a doe, an 8 point and a 10 point buck with my XCR-L in the past year. I use a 6.8 kit for deer loaded with 115 gr Cor-Lokt ultra's and H322 powder.... I took the yote with the 223 set up on it at over 100 yards on a dead run with 75 gr Hornady TAP factory ammo..... :D Absolutely my favorite rifle, bar none.
 
Great to hear guys! My XRL-L has been flawless over well over 1000 rounds as well. I didn't know people were hunting with theirs. 6.8 SPC ammo looks pretty expensive though. Is the 7.62 x 39 a good hunting round? 223 is not from what I understand.
 
I like the reports. I don't think you can hunt deer in Alberta or maybe sask in 223.
My M is on the way. Brand new.
 
I tried one in .223 once at a range (was the range's rental) and I liked it. Heavy, but felt well "built". Only thing that was weird was that pretty much every case was ejecting with the neck formed into a D so much so that I was a little concerned about being able to re-load them. Was this just this gun (being a range gun, it prolly wasn't the best maintained / treated gun - poor thing...) or do others who own them have any issues with brass for re-loading?

Once you find what ammo it like,its not so bad I also reload,but so far hornady 110gr V max , 120 gr hornady sst, I bought 2 boxes of each ( 19.99 a box) I have 1 box of each left so HOPEFULLY that 20 yotes and 20 deer,who am I kidding every time someone comes over we end up shooting 2L coke bottles

Do not forget if hunting with 7.62 x 39 you should buy a hunting round
In Ontario you can use 223 on deer ,I personly nothing smaller then 243to 270 because I live in an area that is 270 cal and under,but when I go North I like to take my 300 out
 
Gas setting was too high so the brass was being thrown out and hitting the brass deflector WAYYY harder than it should.

Dial it down a notch or two and you should be fine.
