I want the heavy barrel, I just don t need all that side rail space. That will thin the front grip area nicely.
There's about 2lbs of unneeded rail, for my purposes.
A member on here has done this exact mod, and quite a few people on the XCR forums and it actually looks quite nice. Most people are doing it more for a better handling of the rifle not so much for weight savings. Most guys are finding it shaves off something like 7.05oz or about 0.44lbs. Also felt heat coming the receiver was much more noticeable after firing with out the buffer that the little extra thickness of the rail provided. Seems like a lot of work if the overall goal is weight savings. If its to slim it up and make it more comfortable for you to shoot than I say go for it.
I just figured that out re; weight. Hmmm not enough to shave it of for weight alone. Might still do it for better gripping though.
Check out "tiborasaurus rex's" sniper 101 youtube vid on barrel harmonics. Good stuff.
I'm very interested in the light barrel and I am far from a precision shooter. But I'm having great difficulty finding out anything about how the light barrel performs. I've tried my best on google, but no such luck for me. I'm pretty well interested in only shooting around 100 yds. I'm thinking of my beloved XCR as something I'd carry primarily out in the bush or at the farm.
