My Yugo Mauser M48 Build <PICS>

Maverick, leave the rifle alone. Anything you do to remove the bedding now, will only cause irreversible damage. The rifle is now a very pretty shooter. Enjoy it. Have fun with it. So what if it's not a safe queen. Just live and learn. I sold a couple of Brazilian Mausers to a fellow at a gun show in Vernon BC last year. A 1908 and a 1935. They were both about 95% and he paid accordingly, without batting an eye. I found out later, he is a well advertised and well known gunsmith that caters to some very well heeled clientele. You guessed it, maybe I can pick up the stocks, barrels and other metal at a reasonable price at the next show.

Firstly - Welcome to CGN Maverick82 and thanks for contributing. Don't take all the comments to heart - some people do get a bit outta shape when milsurp rifles are altered in anyway and some even get that way when a careful refinishing is done. I have an unissued M48BO and it is a good shooter out of the box so to speak and I think they are enjoyable rifles to own. My recommendation for someone who likes refinishing/rebuilding is to find a sporterised milsurp like an Enfield and restore to the full-wood version - this is a rewarding hobby and will (usually) only get appreciative comments from members here.

Cheers,

Bob

Perhaps a forum on how to improve a milsurp would be a good idea to help folks to the job right and achieve their goals without killing another relic???

I say leave it be unless it is simply not safe to fire or just a bubba gone bad but I know I will get flamed by the people from the other side of the fence who claim it is their firearm and they can do what they want to it regardless of future collector value.

NABS;
Don't worry, I won't feel bad if you buy some place else.... They ALL come from us regardless.
John

How many are in Canada? On your site you said that their were only around 3000 made, and most were put in storage until you bought them? Did all the ones you bought come to Canada or did some go to the US?

To some taking a mint milsurp and modifying it is sacrilege. I'm more or less in that category, but taking a beat up old bubba'd milsurp and turning it into a sporting beauty.
Now we're talking!
Enjoy your Yugo M48. They are the last of it's kind.

Milled

Looks like milling marks to me.

I believe he said once somewhere that most went to the US.

Do the M48BO rifles have milled or stamped trigger guard & floor plate ?

It is milled.

I think most have stamped floor plates, mine does. They are a mix of M48's and M48B's. No M48A configuration's were done into M48BO's according to this:

http://www.milsurps.com/showthread.php?t=1686

An acquaintance had conducted a study on these rifles and after reviewing over 2,000 assorted Yugo Mausers, observed that no BO's were configured as the model A. Plenty of M48 and more M48B's but not one M48A. Since he gave me that observation, I have been watching and have not seen one either. Many have been reported but upon examination, all were misidentified M48B. If you know of a verified M48A-bo, we'd sure like to know about it.

To clarify:

M48 - All milled, some made into M48BO's.
M48A - All milled minus stamped floor plate. None observed as M48BO's.
M48B - Still marked as "M48A" except more stamped parts used, lots made into M48BO's.
M48BO - Absent markings and crest, can be either in M48 or M48B configuration.

Clear as mud?

Too bad your stock is the craps. Mine is nice and I can live with the stamped parts. You should take advantage of that Iron Clad Guarantee, then buy this M48 instead:

Looks sweet!

Ya well this was a replacement for one of the latest Norinco they brought in that I bought & sent back (too many problems) .I wasn't expecting this M48BO to be new right off the assembly line but at the price they are I was expecting a mint unissued rifle which it is except for the stock . Not wasting any more money shipping guns back . Besides with my luck with them I would probably get one even worse , This is one investment that will not appreciate over time .
