Just wanted to share this since there are more people here that have posted to have FTE issues
with their Zastava's in 22lr.

I love the rifle; affordable, all steel (even mags), walnut stock & nice blued finish but hated the unreliable extraction.
Tried polishing the chamber; no fix. It got better with CCI Standard ammo instead of Winchester and Federal that I used before
but still some FTE's so I continued my quest to get this fixed.

The problem is caused by extractor springs that are not strong enough.
I noticed that the extractors had quite a bit less spring tension than the ones in my pre ww2 Savage bolt action.
So found heavier springs and replaced the factory ones and now it's working great.

Hope this is helpful to others.
Cheers, Bert

*By the way; due to the suppliers minimum order I had to order more springs than I needed so if you need some of these
springs you can PM me and we can work something out.

I have had problems with mine as well, it extracted fine when rifle was clean but after 50 or so rds it would not extract the fired round in the chamber. Usually I would have to stick my cleaning rod down the pipe to push it out.

Well done! With that simple fix i hope that people will be more attracted to that great rifle!!

Bert thanks for the springs. I took the rifle out to the range today to try it out.
I found that most federal ammo worked fairly well in the rifle. Once in every 40 or 50
rounds I would have to pop out an empty case with a cleaning rod.
The other problem I had with my Zastava was feeble ejection. Quite often a round would
not eject out of the rifle or would hit the bottom of the scope and drop back in jamming the bolt when I tried to
push in the next round. It now ejects cases with force a big improvement.

I only replaced the spring on the lever side of the bolt. I trimmed the new spring so it was a
millimeter longer than the original.

I had one CCI Standard case get stuck in the chamber of my MP22. Tapped it out with a cleaning rod, switched ammo & continued on shooting no issues.

I will be replacing the springs as bertn noted just in case.

Thanks bertn!

Thanks for bringing this post back up Jay!
I had forgotten about Bert's spring suggestion....

Hey Bert, what's the best search words if someone was to use google to find the springs in question?

Do you still have some left?

I don't have springs left.

It's a few years ago so don't really remember exactly.
Basically I measured the original spring then looked for the same outside diameter spring with a bit thicker wire.

I checked my ebay account and couldn't find it there.
I'll see if I can dig it up somewhere in my inbox.

Gunco trimmed & installed the new springs on the bolt's extractors.

He advised I try it again & see if the issue is resolved. You'll recall I had ONE casing get stuck when I sighted in the rifle.

I'm not sure when I can hit the range again, but I'll keep you guys in the loop.

VERY HAPPY with this tac driver! :dancingbanana:

Cheers
Jay
P.S. Thanks bertn!
