Mysteries of the 228, 229, 239 and NP-34 (pic heavy)

I saw some of the rail wear on your p229. I'm guessing this is normal with sigs?

I noticed some rail wear on the nitron finish after only 500 or so rounds on my P226
Sigs with nitron slides wear out finish on the frame faster than two-tone sigs or older W. German stamped steel guns. It's normal, and there's not much you can do about it other than using a good lubricant (grease, not oil or CLP).

I have a lot of pistols. And just received 3 prohibs, thanks to 12(7)!!! One of the 12(6)'s is a Walther PP.... drool! ALWAYS wanted one!

Anyway, my Norc Sig is one of my guns that has MFG status. It shoots great, workmanship, fit and finish is very good, considering where it is made. Really, for the price it simply can't be beat!

I like the solid trigger, too! Skelitonized triggers look toy-ish to me!

Well i just got some new Sig toys today, a 357Sig barrel for my 229 and a .22cal conversion kit for my 226. The 229 now has 3 barrels for it!

Definitely let me know how the .22LR upper works on your 226. Another poster had said that his didn't work worth a damn on his 226, and that seemed to kill off 95% of the buzz about the SIG kits on this board. I'm really hoping that this is not the common experience of all users (why would SIG ship them out if they didn't work? Was it a mismatch on the gun?) There have definitely been some positive reviews of the the SIG .22LR kits on some of the US websites, but so far we have not had a lot of feedback on them in Canada.

Nice pics by the way!

P.S. - Where did you get the full-cap (pinned, I'm sure) 229 mags? Those look nice. Did they come with one of your guns or did you buy them somewhere?

And another thing! I was going to show you guys some targets from this weekend with the P239. My girlfriend and I went up to the public range (Range 7) at PoCo on Saturday because it was raining (damn winter! I wanted to work on my holster stuff). Some guys were packing up where we usually shoot and we took their spots. Waiting for ceasefire I decided to shot a few rounds at their targets (they had left by this point). Can't wait to start shooting! Bet I'm not the only one that does this once in awhile! I estimate that they were at about 7 to 8 yards away. I don't know if they were shooting fast or slow or what... so no comment from me on their groups... but I decided to use 8 rounds to try and pick off the little red dot PoCo logo in the top left corner of the targets that they sell on Range 7. This was the resut:

This is pretty damn good if you ask me. Love that SIG P239! The weird thing about that gun.,.. you don't lose any accuracy vis-a-vis any other SIG as far as I can tell.

Shooting later in the day at about 15 yards (target stand sitting on "the log") I was only able to put groups like this together with the P239... shooting for accuracy... so I still have a way to go for "intermediate" pistol distances with this gun. I shot some 25 yard groups with it too, but it looked similar to this 15 yard group... maybe a bit bigger.

Another accuracy thing with the P239.... I put this video up on Youtube recently:

It is sort of the P239 counterpart to this one with the P229. Only thing is... the damn video memory ran out before I finished shooting. It may be a bit hard to see, but all the shots in both videos are hits.

I also, put these videos up on youtube this weekend. My girlfriend and I got a chance to shoot a SIG P210 (I've shot a few of them before, but not this particular gun... she had never shot one before though... notice that the first shot takes both of us by surprise a bit. The trigger on this one is very light). Very accurate (that's what everyone says, but it's true). And I put up another HK P2000 video that show a couple difference things about that gun than what I have shown before:

2 mags came with the pistol and I just got some more from Questar, they are not cheap but what do you do. I wonder if the NP-34 mags will work in my 229? The pistol is about a year old.

That's interesting. I guess I should order some mags from Questar. What calibre are those?

Those ones I have, whether they came with the guns, came from Brownells (back when they would send them to me), or came from Numrich, all look like the one below:

The 229 9mm, 228 and NP-34 mags are all interchangeable (in theory at least). The mag that comes with the NP-34 kinda sucks though. I generally use the factory SIG mags with it.

I was using pro mag 226 mags in my NP34 for IDPA. They stick out about 3/4", but usually did the job.

I picked up some Mec Gar 228/229 mags from the states before the gates came crashing down and they work flawlessly in the NP34.

x2 for the factory NP34 mags. I have only one and use it for a stripper mag (also good for practicing stoppages on the range).

How is the Trigger pull of NP34 compares to original p228/p229?
Where did you got P228 grips for your Norc NP34?

Thanks!

I've always liked the SIGs. The way a gun looks sends a message, ya know?
Little 25 auto pocket pistol (where they are legal) says "go away you brute"; 38/357 revolver says "pay attention or you'll regret it"; but the SIG says "Fill your boots, you son of a b:eek::eek::eek:h!"
Just a mean looking pistol.

Thought I would bring this thread back again.

I'm looking at getting an NP34 now as a budget pistol :D well after the kitchen reno is done anyways :(

any other comments or reviews of the NP34 ??

Oh the machineing looks a lot better then the M203, took me about 4 hours to deburr that little bugger :p

This quote from the original post sums it up pretty well:

Actually, the Norinco seems like a pretty decent gun for $350. The only things that seem a little wonky are... the finish is a little rough, the grips feel plasticy and a bit slippery, and the mag it comes with seems to have that "bullet nose down" problem, although that could sort itself out with use.

The stock grips suck, the finish is a bit rough (but perfectly serviceable), the DA trigger is heavy (still, and my pistol has seen use), the SA is quite decent for a stock trigger on a cheap(ish) gun. Mine is somewhere between 1500-2000 rounds and has never had a failure to feed, fire or eject. I bought some MecGar mags from Marstar and they work fine for me. For $350 you won't find a better value in a DA/SA 9mm.

No nasty sharp edges on this one, neither. I have deburred nothing and don't feel it needs it.
