Mystery brass fitting in Citori 725 butt.

I'm trying to figure out just what this ??? brass fitting (doohickey, really) is on the butt of my Citori 725 Trap.
It's threaded and appears to be shallow, as (I think) I can see wood behind it.

No, it's not the comb adjuster (that's above).
The large hole is, of course, where the stock bolt lives.

I need to trim a little off the end of the stock, but this thing is pretty much flush with the butt and completely in the way.

If this is not going to be used by you in the future, I have a few suggestions which will all work. Find a bolt that fits the thread pattern. Hard from the pic but guessing 1/4 20 or 1/4 24 or 1//4 28,leaning more to the 24 or 28. When you find the thread pitch, jam a nut as tight as you can and then put a wrench on it and jam the second nut on the first and then turn out the threaded insert. Didnt work?, option two, Take a screw extractor and drill the appropriate hole and turn the insert out! Option three is use a fine toothed quality saw blade and use a slow feed rate and cut straight thru it. Its brass and no match to a quality fine toothed carbide blade. Option four is to find out the outside circumfrence of the insert and drill the whole unit out with a quality holesaw.
 
Thanks Paul_T, I think that could be it.
The pic in the manual (you linked) has a separate hole for the weight, but mine seems to use the stock-bolt hole for the balance weights instead.
But the position of this ‘anchor’ relative to the stock-bolt hole certain makes sense.

I’ll try Longstud’s suggestion (Thanks!) to remove it (and to save it) as I might re-install it when I’m done with the stock mods.
The manual does not mention what threads are used.

 
4mm allen wrench for the socket cap screw (in the manual) suggests an M5 threaded fastener. Common course thread is M5 x 0.8, M5 x 0.5 is fine

I think I want to remove it non-destructively, and possibly re-install it and hope this a friction-fit with some wood glue.
If I can get a screw in there, I might be able to weaken the wood enough to get it free (since I plan to take around 1/2” off the stock anyways).
