I'm wondering how many of my fellow CGNer's given the opportunity would go on a nanuq(polar bear) hunt? I'm curious to see your responses ... ;)

p.s. 2 hunting tags have been given to my community ... my name is in the hat ... cross your fingers and toes for me would you? :D

First, let me say yes, of course.

However, I am waiting for the usual question / comment about why would you want to hunt such a beautiful animal? Are they not endangered? Are you going to eat it? Blah, blah, blah.....

You better take pictures and write a story about it if you go!

Damn lucky basta......

I wouldn't want to hunt a polar bear.

No particular reason, just not something that interests me.
I like black bear hunting and have bought a grizzly tag every year.

I've seen a lot of shootable grizzly's but just haven't decided to take one yet.

This will sound strange and I can't explain it but I find a grizzly bear a truly majestic animal and I'm just not sure if I would ever shoot one.

Unless he was trying to eat me of course.:D

Good luck on getting a tag, post some pics if you get one.

Me 2 , Ive never shot a bear or any predator for that matter, just the hooved guys. dont know why , i have a bit of sympathy for my fellow predator i guess. although wolves and Yotes are getting to be rodents so they are on the hit list now.

I would love to, but only with a real experinced Inuit guide.

I have been on the pack ice (not too far) and I know full well it is not the place for a hallenut without some good help. (I didn't spell that yright did I Ok?)

Well explained Pickles. But would you really not want to hunt one, or just not shoot one?

I have hunted black bears for many years (15+) buying a tag every year, and I, like you, have never shot one myself. I have 'guided' a number of new hunters and friends to some really nice bears over the years. In all the years I have hunted them I have only ever wanted to take 2 bears; I hunted both with a bow, and it just never worked out. I have hit more then I can count with rocks to teach them to pay attention while some SOB is sneaking up on them with a pointy stick.

I put in for a grizzly draw in BC every year until I moved after they opened the season again, pretty much because some douche bags (NDP) had told me I could not hunt them for a couple of years. Would have loved the opportunity to hunt one, still not sure if I would have killed one.

Having said that, I would love to hunt a polar bear whether I shot one or not. Mind you, if I mortgaged my house to go, I would be a lot more likely to take one.

There is something different about going head on with an animal that has the ability, if not the desire, to hand you your ass in your hat that makes the hunt very intense. But then again, maybe I am a bit of an adrenalin junky.

I've shot a few black bears. Great smokies.:D

A lot of people up here consider driving down the road and popping a grizzly eating dandelions in the ditch hunting. Pisses me right off when they brag " I got my grizz"
Not something I would do.

I was up near the NWT border a few years ago moose hunting when my truck broke down. While waiting for someone to drive by I was glassing a hill about a mile away and saw a HUGE grizzly working his way down a mountain.
If the truck wasn't down I know for a fact I would have went after him.

So maybe it's about the hunt as opposed to the shooting.

Ever since I was a child my two ultimate dream hunts have been Polar Bear and Cape Buffalo. I finally did the buff at age 52. So when I hit 104 years....

Great replies my fellow CGNer's ... I'm crossing my fingers and toes ... another 3 hrs and the draw happens ... :D
