If I could ever afford a Polar bear hunt I would be on a plane so fast it would make your head spin!!! A real drem of mine maybe someday good luck on the draw

I'm not sure, I trip over these guys daily, especially this time of year, so the desire to spend $20K to hunt one isn't that appealing to me. Now a coastal grizzly, that's another matter!

I wish the tree huggers would realize that you can have a regulated hunt without any impact on the game population. Polar bears don't live forever, and to kill one in his last year or two of life has no impact on his contribution to the species.

Good luck Otokiak!

Absolutely yes I would hunt Polar Bear in a heart beat even have my rifle and load ready... :D

I wouldn't pay $20 grand for the hunt either basically I have an issue having to pay any guide/outfitter to hunt in Canada never done it and probably never will.

Id fly up just to be on the hunt, not the one that pulls the trigger, that wouldnt matter to me. Good Luck

No,I'm a meat hunter and I don't care for bear meat.I'd defend anyone's else's right to hunt them it's just not my thing.Good luck on your hunt Otokiak and post pics of your hunt.Even though I don't hunt bears I like reading about other people's hunts.

OK, why are you hunting them this time of year? Why not closer to Spring when they are getting ready for summer? Would they not be fatter, healthier and have a better coat?

Well unfortunately for I did not get myself a nanuq ... darn! 1st day we travelled by snowmobile up the coast towards Chesterfield Inlet on the edge of the seaice close to the land when we could, but mostly on the land as the seaice is only out so far ... plus it's still too damn thin to travel on by snowmobile mostly. We drove over land riddled with boulders, some soft snow and ice and it was beyond rough. We stayed at this cabin approx 3/4's of the way to Chesterfield Inlet and arrived around 2pm. Unpacked, made some tea and had a bite to eat and started scoping the seaice and land for nanuqs and spotted across from us 3 bears ... a mother and two cubs that were almost the same size as her ... approx 5 feet in length. We drove over to take a look at them and they were eating a large seal as carcass and a load of blood was there, we then noticed a beluga whale head also so who knows how long they had been feeding in this area. Shortly after we saw them walk away from us back out on the pack ice we spotted another bear ... a large male. Myself and my friend both had tags and since another friend spotted it the rule of who see's it first get's it was out to lunch ... so we agreed that whoever got to him first had the bear ... took off on our snowmobiles only to find that the bear was across this super thin seaice on a small island off the mainland ... I tore across only to be passed by my friend. He shot it with a .243 and it took 5 shots to kill it as it would not go down ... was wild to watch this thing turn after it got hit the first shot ... he spun around on his hind legs swinging his paws and growling like I've never seen or heard a bear before ... AWESOME! He was on a side of the island in the pack ice so we gutted him as the tide was coming in, put him on a qamutiq and went back to the mainland. There was 5 of us and unfortunately just as we reached the mainland 2 buddies started to sink and went thru ... luckily for them it was only as deep as up to their butts ... HAHA! We took awhile getting their sleds outta the ice. Back to the cabin to dry the lads off, eat something and talk about the experience. It get's dark here real quick now and it wasn't until approx 7pm we went back outside to skin this large male bear ... with a yamaha bravo headlight and a couple handheld flash lights we skinned, cut up the meat and laughed at my friend Jeff as he damn near pooped his pants. HAHA. Next morning woke up to snow coming down so thick it wasn't funny ... DAMMIT ... I paced around all morning ... approx 5 hrs later it clears right up and the sun is shining ... EXCELLENT ... 11am I'm off again on my snowmobile with 2 of the lads I was with up the coast further ... see the mother and 2 cubs again hunting seals on the ice ... purdy neat to watch them learn from momma-bear ... one of the cubs even pulled a seal out. Got up the coast further past several inlets to find a large male ... we stop ... walk over the seaice to this small island as it was down below his view ... we were approx 100 yards from him and can see him clearly ... he was beautiful! Now the problem is we can't get to him as he's laying on top of pack ice and there's open water between us ... I could have easily shot him with my .308 ... but would have no way of getting to him without a boat. One of my buddies stood up so the bear could see him and started walking down the small island to our right to see if the bear would go towards him and come off the pack ice ... this thing stood up tall and was magnificent ... sniffing the air and grunting and groaning ... sat down, got up again and turned around and jumped in the water and got back onto the pack ice behind him and walked off towards the flow-edge taking a look back every once in awhile to watch us. It was pretty awesome watching him ... while he watch and sniffed us ... these bears are amazing ... smarter then you'd think. Started travelling up the coast again to see a large female with a wee wee cub ... darn thing was super cute and fat ... then we spotted a bear like no other ... I'm serious this thing was a few miles out on the thin seaice and you could see him with your naked eye ... in the bino's it was a monster ... well over 10 feet, maybe more. Unfortunately I ran out of daylight and we headed home ... I'm not complaining too much as it was an experience of a lifetime ... 8 bears in total we saw ... my buddy Jeff got his 1st ... we were all happy! Cheers,
