When you get into IPSC, cost of the gun is going to be least of your expenses

Shadow would be a better suited gun for IPSC.

I paintball too much to really get into IPSC, but there is an IPSC night at the range here that I would probably hit up every few weeks.

just to add something new,...the Action shooting section has some suggestions, one of the new ones is a tanfoglio L model with rail, but longer top half,...same top end as the stock/ stock 2 but in blued finish.

Unless you're really thinking about getting into IPSC I'd go with the GP6. Nothing wrong with it just the Shadow was built specifically for competition, GP6 is straight up service pistol. Although I think there is a C model that would be better suited for shooting paper.

I doubt I would do anything more then a fun IPSC shoot. Will it being built specifically for competition change anything? I always figures guns more like the STI Edge were comp guns.

GP6 is not really an STI. a few years ago these guns were sold here as K100 made by Slovakian company called Grand Power. They are still make the guns only STI imports them and sells them in North Amarica.

I saw one of the dealers selling GP6C on the EE for $950. basically you get a fiber optic sight, adj. sights and extended mag release.

So looking for a pistol. And am down to three.

The XD, CZ 75 SP01, and the STI GP6.

I like all three, but what one should I get?

STI GP6: Pro, rotating barrel design. Con, ugly.

CZ 75 SP01: Pro, ###y. Con, need to replace trigger pin each and every time you pull the trigger; huge con if you like to see how things work

XD: Pro, nothing for "Con"

I have a CZ 75B myself and it's a nice gun esp in stainless! but IMO shadow is a bit heavy for a 9mm - some 42oz, where regular 75 is 35 IIRC. btw GP6 is 26oz. I think you need to beside first if you want a steel or polymer gun

Another thing to consider is that CZ is picky about the OAL of the ammo. My 'regular' 9mm loads were making my gun jam out of battery and low profile of the slide makes it difficult rack the slide. My main complaints about CZ.

On the second thought just get a Beretta

I think you will agree gun will digest any and all factory ammo. If you are going to reload you might as well tailer your cartridges to your gun. CZ's do have exacting chambers though. I like to hink it speaks to their quality.

I'll be using factory ammo. I didn't find it heavy for a steel gun, thought it was light compared to other steel guns.

polymer or steel didn't really matter.

If you can find a GP6 with the adjustable trigger and sights that would be the one to get as opposed to the single USA model from STI. I did a lot of work on my 75 but use my GP6 right from the box. Rotating barrel rotates everytime the slide moves back rather than tilt. It's supposed to me more accurate and have less felt recoil. I think it also wears less. It's cool as only a couple pistols have this feature. I'd be all over it if the gun wasn't so fugly.

Trigger pin needs to be replaced everytime you remove the trigger, which I guess CZ is assuming will be never. Like I said, if you like to take your stuff apart, the CZ sucks. Otherwise they are nice.

Anyway, they are all good. I'd go XD myself with your options, but, you can't go wrong with whatever you decide.
