NB Moose season is over. . .

3 days is all we get, if lucky enough to get drawn. Sorry to here you didn't get one coach.

I seriously doubt I'll do it again until they lengthen the season, at least not as a gunner. I don't mind running around looking for them, but paying $80 for a 3-day licence is insane.

This year was bad, though. Wind and fog didn't help, but the spot we were in was pretty good . . . but my second gun called one in and the next blind over shot it. We had chances at two others but time really worked against us.

Truthfully, I went into the season not expecting to get one myself, but I figured my 2nd gunner would. The worst part is that although I had more fun than I'd had in months and got to see some nice country, you get pretty hopped up on adrenaline DURING the season no matter what your expectations were before, and then it's a let-down.

I honestly think a fellow is better off saving his shekels and going to NFLD every 2 or 3 yrs than enduring this torture here in NB.

Driving to Quebec would be another option that may be less expensive as the Americans would be less likely to go there than Newfie. Worth looking into.

Ours is about 3 months and there are plenty of moose around. When I was over at Gros Morne, one of the parks folks said there were an average of 7 moose per square km on the west coast/northern penninsula.

Yeah.

I think next time I'm going to QC or NFLD. I heard that you can get a caribou hunt in QC for $600 in January. Heck, if I could find someone to guide me for a reasonable price in Labrador, a non-res licence is only $120 there.

I'd suggest you do it sooner rather than later. Caribou populations are dropping dramatically all across the north, including Quebec and Labrador. And with them, of course, the number of available licenses.

Caribou hunting in NL isn't what it used to be, but its still pretty good.

Trouble is, I don't even know where to start looking. Every outfitter I can find wants $3500, which is out of my range at the moment. I'd rather find a guy who simply tells me where to look and shoos me out the door and rustle my own grub and tents, etc., than pay an extra $3000 for cushy toilet paper and beer at camp.

My dad's friend in CB claims he knows outfitters who would take me for free in Labrador and NFLD. I think it's time to give him a call.
