NoDak Spud has recently started making an interesting new lower receiver. If there is enough interest, a matching upper could be in the works. Just to put it out there.
I am not the one making or selling these, please do not message me about purchasing information.

Interesting indeed!

Will need its own FRT but looks promising. Unless of course it is deemed a variant of the AR180 series because it accepts AR180 uppers. Then it would just suck. Mind you this worry might not be an issue, as even the AR180b is noted in the FRT remarks as "is capable of mounting any AR-180 series rifle upper receiver/frame unit to the new polymer lower" but still gas a non-restricted or restricted status. So this still has potential up here.

From the Nodak website...

The new NDS-18S is a direct replacement for the factory AR-180B polymer lower receiver. No more will you have to worry about breaking the serialized part with hard usage. Just transfer over your lower receiver parts.

Not only will the NDS-18S fit the "B" type uppers, it will also fit the original Costa Mesa, Howa, and Sterling uppers utilizing the dual pin recoil spring guide.

This will save your irreplaceable bolt hold open and other stamped parts, and give you the ability to use modern AR-15/M16 mags and a variety of stock styles.

(You will have to acquire "B" style FCG parts)

This receiver is made in house on our CNC's, machined from 7075 T6 511 billet aluminum, and finished in a black Type 3 Hard Coat anodizing.

Built for a lifetime of service, the NDS-18S is a rugged, versatile lower that gives you the modern modularity you want.

The rear of the receiver is set up to use the high quality stock adapters from Stormwerkz.

And...

Features of the NDS-18S

Takes standard AR-15 / M16 type mags

Rear mounting hole for stock hardware is threaded 5/16x18 (will accept Stormwerkz adapters)

Faux spot welds and external detailing mimics original sheet metal lowers for a cool Retro style

Made from 7075 T6 511 billet

Type 3 Hard Coat Anodizing

As an Homage to the designers, the serial prefix stands for:

Stoner, Miller, Sullivan, and Dorchester

Parts that are interchangeable with the AR-15:

hammer w/spring
trigger/disconnector w/springs
magazine catch assembly

front pivot pin w/detent and spring

pistol grip w/screw (models such as A1, A2, Tango Down, Troy CQB, etc)

Fire Control Group parts that are AR-180B specific:

selector lever
hammer/trigger pivot pins (they are longer)
ejector w/pivot pin and e-clip
ejector/safety selector torsion spring

Some of these are still available from Armalite® Inc.

When they run out we will probably make our own.

I would be all over this! My AR180b is one of my favourite NR guns, if not my favourite. The last thing I want is to have my lower break, and I'm getting more and more nervous of that the more rounds I put through it.
What's the next step in getting these an FRT and getting them up here?

Imported, and off to the lab I assume.

Then again, maybe it is something that doesn't need to go to get classified. I'm not sure if blueprints and pics would suffice given the existing frt for the 180b.

I know the new K&M M17s-556 has been submitted, and that is similar to this case given it is a refresh of the polymer lower Bushmaster M17s, but it too has a billet lower like this Nodak spud would equate to. Not sure what process the K&M gun is going through.

Thats awesome. I know that these things never happen overnight, but its good to know that there's hope!
From having limited knowledge about the RPK thread, I would assume that someone needs to buy one and donate it to be assessed by the RCMP, or at the very least have the blueprints examined like you said.

The RPD thread you mean?

The lower is about 250. If you used IRG to get it here, that would tack on another 200 plus fees. So a 500 investment.

But of course that lower may not get back to you. If it does it would be used. And everyone else would benefit.

However, if a collection were taken, and the funds used to import it, a large number would be out a few bucks, but might reap the positive reward.

50 people, $10 bucks each. Would cover all costs haha.

Yes, the RPD thread! I've been into the liquor cabinet a few times tonight, and I'm making it up as I go...
This is all sounding great and it's not unreasonable money, even if its only a small party that takes up the cause.

Why would this matter? Any AR15 lower is capable of accepting a real M4 or M16 upper receiver. As long as the lower is semi-only I can't imagine why that would be an issue. Neat gun though. Would be cool to see a new made remake for about $1000 or so.

There's a few thing that I've had my eye on from NDS for a while, so I think tomorrow I'll send an email and see if they're willing to give it a shot and are willing to play ball with IRG. I'll post the results here, when I hear back.

You are referring to prohib by full auto. That is not what I was referring to, and would not be an issue here.

AR180 is a named prohib.

AR180b isn't.

It may be claimed that the NDS-18s lower is as much a 180b variant as a 180 variant. The "upper " angle is how the lab has classified new designs as AR15 variants. If an an AR15 upper will fit and fire, then the lower is an AR15 variant and thus restricted. I'm not saying this will be an AR15 variant, I'm just using the example with regards to a classification reference.

As I said earlier though, the frt acknowledges that the 180 is a named prohib, that the 180b accepts 180 uppers, but the 180b is still non restricted or restricted dependent on barrel length. With that in mind, my ramblings may be of no concern.

A group buy for cheap could get one of these lowers to the lab a little individual cost. That would be the only way to know for sure.

Well I couldn't wait. I sent an email to NDS to see if they are willing to sell to me, using IRG as a broker. The ball is in motion.

Or that could happen. Hahaha

What I dont understand is why a Canadian company like NEA hasnt started making something like this. We all know the 180b's would fly off the shelf up here.

NDS isn't registered as an ITAR exporter, and from where I sit, isn't likely to become one. Too bad, NDS stuff is first class and I know a few old timers with AR-180's that are prohib who would go for this in order to be able to shoot their guns again.

They don't have to be. Send it to an importer like I Run Guns and it's good to go. The only thing it needs is an frt.
