NEA 15 PDW Newb Experience. *Updated 01/06/2012*

NEA is working with me to get the issues sorted out. I am being a bit of a squeaky wheel, so I'm sure they want me off their butts lol.

I know once the issues are sorted, it is going to be a good gun. It is already a great shooter when it is functioning.

I am frustrated, but that is certainly due in part to a lack of knowledge on my behalf. I have learned a ton about the platform now though, and knowledge is good.

Oh come on gimme a break! The guy knew I was there and shooting, its his own fault not mine. It didn't burn him or anything. It just made him suprised since most guns don't throw that far.

Oh and FastFord, you should have went to NEA right away with your problem, it would have been solved right away. They have excellent customer service. :)

That's 400 rounds? I've seen Colt's with tens of thousands of rounds without that much cam pin wear.

Is there a burr on the cam pin?

No burr. I have looked at probably 50 to 60 different pics of various states of wear and researched over at ar15com. It differs from rifle to rifle and my wear looks similar to others that people said were fine.

It will only wear so far and stop. I imagine mine is at the no more wear stage.
 
I've seen way worse cam wear. More curious than anything else. Some companies market a round cam pin (and POF I think does a roller cam).

That said, I'd put TW25B or another weapons grease on your cam pin.

Your gun is violently extracting (part of the issue with any VSBR) the pressure curve on those guns is short and sharp. Your current extractor is not always accomodating that - any (non dual spring ejector) <14.5 gun really needs the O Ring or D-Fender to give it extra strength, and many 14.5" and 16" guns can benifit from it (it does not hurt reliability).

With respect to the LAR-15 magazines, it could be related to the followers. I would be inclined to try an H2 buffer first, though - as this will slow the cycling and may mitigate some (all?) or the problems you're experiencing. I personally like the Spike's ST-T2 heavy buffer (it's probably the softest, smoothest and quietest buffer; it's filled with Tungsten powder, so there are no moving parts).

Just ordered the ST-T2 Buffer. I think ill try and do a side by side comparrison at some point!

Agreed! I love the PWS CQB Comp on my 7.5 Spikes, a great shorty AR Muzzle Device
 
Quick update.

NEA shipped me a brand new, in house made BCG with the upgraded extractor in it at their cost.

Some of you may know that when I got my rifle initially, there was a mix up with the retailer and it didn't ship with a BCG. I did get one, but it wasn't one that came with the rifles.

I also put the standard buffer back in the rifle as per NEA recommendation. I will be getting out tonight to see if the issues have sorted themselves out.
 
I have to ask, WTF is going on at NEA? Do your QC people even give 1% about the job they do? I work as a toolmaker and If I ever let parts with my companies name on them go out the door with the huge nasty machining marks on them like the things i have seen on this site JUST TODAY, My boss would beat me with a vice handle. If I sent assemblies out that couldn't function because of clearance issues after claiming I had tested them, I would be unemployed instantly. Hang your head in shame.
 
I can tell you right now why you where having so many stoppages.

That bcg was dirty as anything and you where using a completly new gun. You got to get CLP or some other lubricant in there asap promise I will solve the problem or at the very least help greatly with it.
 
Problems are long solved. It was a combo of the BCG being an issue, loose gas block and a couple of other misc things. I do run the gun wet and dirty, but that's just how I like it. I haven't had a problem with the gun in a long time.

Consequently, the NEA compact carbine stock is showing up on my doorstep today.
 
Having issues with a new rifle like that had to be annoying. On the upside, I'll bet you learnt 100x more about the rifle than if you didn't have any issues.

Yeah, this thread is a bit embarrassing now to be honest. But I have a lot more knowledge on the platform, so it worked out.

Very cool. Forgot you had to use the custom BCG with it. Cool that it is a BCG/Buffer all-in-one.
