I thought I would post this, especially for an lefties out there.

I read a pile of posts about the poor quality of NEA products, but ignored them and bought an Ambi safety from a supporting dealer here since it was cheap. The photos made it look like the levers could be swapped, or at least the one under my trigger finger would be a bit shorter.

It showed up at the door and the levers are the same length and the one under my trigger finger is actuated thicker than milspec. No worries as there are screws on both sides so I thought I would just swap them. Well they used Phillips head screws, only ever seen these as Allen or torx. So I dug out my many screwdrivers and found one that fit perfectly and applied force; did not budge. I decided not to apply more until I put the heat gun to it to free it assuming Blue loctite. I got it hot enough I needed a leather glove to hold on, applied force and she stripped like it was made from plastic.

I contacted NEA to see if they cod help me out. The response was it was unfortunate I stripped it but we will send you new screw if you can dig it out myself. I was a bit pissed as the product design was not the greatest and the cost of the tool to dig it out (if you can for a screw that length) was not worth the effort. I said I should have known better after reading posts here and said I would post a warning for others. I was really pissed when I got back good luck with my post and tell CGN that NEA says hi.

The dealer here tried to help, but got back after they talked to NEA that the handle on that side is never meant to come off. I would have lived with that if NEA had told me that initially, but it seems a bit weak since they could have told me that in the first place.

I could cut and shape the long lever, bit the one I wanted long and thick is really thin, and I am worried that Phillips screw will seize also leaving me with it stuck in the gun.

Anywho, take this for what you will. The safeties are not lefty friendly and my experience with their support staff was not great at all. I will buy from the dealer I used again, but never another NEA product.

Yet another example why I'll never purchase their product.
I agree with the KAC safeties, I'm no lefty but I have 4 KAC safeties on my 4 rifles and find them to be an excellent, no frills well made part.

That sucks. Their new ambi safeties are much nicer than their older ones which by the sounds of things is what you got...I'm surprised they didn't just pop one in the mail to you. Threatening to bad-mouth them on CGN, however, rarely has the desired effect - they've been dragged over the coals here so much they have developed a pretty thick skin in that regard.

I never threatened them; that would mean I meant to do something IF they did not do as I asked. I stated to them after they brushed me off that I would make sure that people here knew about it.

####ty luck bud. Hope you can get the screw out and replace it with the warrantied part provided by nea. I know people love to hate nea I just don't get it I own a few of there rifles and never had a problem but when I bought my first two (used) I contacted them to discuss there warranty and they claim to stand by there product 100%. I hope you find a solution.

Call me old fashioned but if I mangled a part on my AR I'm not sure I'd expect the manufacturer to do anything really. I would probably be glad they at least offered me a free replacement of the screw I stripped.

Just out of curiosity, what do you think would happen if you called KAC and told them you stripped the Allen head on your new ambi safety?

I assume that by reading the OP's description he didn't strip the threads, but the screw head broke off leaving him to get the rest of the screw out by drilling it out.
Although I've yet to test KAC customer service, I suspect it would be better than leaving one high and dry.

I don't think he stripped the threads and I don't think the screw head broke off. By his description I'd say he stripped/rounded the Phillips head. And the OP wasn't left high and dry, his ambi safety still functions as it was designed. I do agree with him though that the design of that ambi safety isn't exactly lefty-friendly but as I mentioned, their newer design is a big improvement.

High and dry? They have offered to replace the part. Would kac have you send the rifle to them to extract the screw?? I agree it sucks that they failed to inform the op that the screw was not ment to be removed. So outside of nea replacing the broken part what do you think they should do?

i wanted 2 standard sized safties on my sr-25..... kac dealer fixed me up free of charge

Just drill out the screw till the lever pops off and put another selector in. I bought one and the screws kept coming loose (even with blue Loctite)...needless to say I kept my old right hand one, just in case. I bought it because it was like 30 bucks - which they should be - not over a $100.

Just get the BAD-ASS safety lever and don't look back.

I have a BAD ASS on my AR and should have spent the extra and bought another one for this rifle.

I think the thing that is pissing me off the most is I have been tinkering on guns and mounting scopes for a fairly long time, and following the process I did, I have never had anything else strip that had not been already damaged by someobdy else.

If they had offered to take it back, even at my dime to ship, originally to fix the problem, I would have been happy, even if they did not replace it. They offered that today, but said they would offer to sell me a new safety if they cannot get it out. I think I am just going to take a deep breath, forget about it, and save my money towards a better one. This is no longer worth the aggrevation it has caused me.
