NEA/BLC 102 Reliability

Just got mine in the mail today. Wil be mounting a 1-8x strike eagle on it and testing it out tomorrow during my barrel break in procedure. Will keep you all posted on groups.

Put 50rounds of 155grain hornady american gunner .308 through it today. Almost every round was a failure to extract. 3 inch groups at 100m in a lead sled. I made the mistake of only bringing one kind of ammo. Im hopeing that the malfuntions were due to rifle break in/ too light a bullet. Also xcr M 10 rpund magazine dont work very well with my rifle. Magpul pmags did ok. Best were the IMI mags. Anyone else have any input on theirs?

Man that's disappointing to hear. Hopefully you get back out there soon with some different ammo and let us know if things improve. What exactly was the problem with the magazines that you say didn't work very well or ok?

did you shave/dremel your xcr mags as mentionned in a previous thread?

I have not tried Hornady ammunition in mine yet... I did try 7 types of ammo...

Hirtenberger surplus
Norma Match 168 grain
FNM 80-7 NATO ball surplus THIS IS THE AMMO that my rifle did not like
R1M1 ball surplus
Hirtenberger 165 grain soft point
Federal 150 grain soft point
Federal 180 grain soft point

My rifle fed, fired, extracted & ejected all 6 of the listed ammunition types listed above.

I have 5 of the XCR-M mags and they fit & function in my BCL102. That being said, not every one of them allowed the bolt release to be used. When I touched base with SFRC, they said that the dimensions in that area vary & to bring the mag back into spec, you can slightly file/dremel the left side of the mag spine. (I attached a pic.) Alternatively, BCL could put a radius on the left underside of the bolt release which pushes down on the mag follower to rectify this issue as well...

Cheers
Jay

What steps do you plan on taking next?

Do you think it is worth reporting to BCL yet?

Did you inspect the gun and pull the bolt before going to the range ? Couple simple things you can try from my limited AR experience.

Does it extract properly when manually cycling the action?
Open up the gun, make sure everything is lubed properly.
Bolt moves freely.
Inspect extractor and extractor spring.
Check gas system, make sure no loose gas block or leaks between it and the reciever.

If that's all good:
Test gun by loading 1 round into mag and firing. Make sure it doesn't chuck brass 1-3 o clock (overgassed) or if bolt doesn't lock back on empty mag (under gassed). Can also give indication if it's a buffer spring issue.

Dremel your mag!

For the xcr mag, it did not allow the bolt release to work and it takes alot of force to seat the mag when the bolt is closed. I will try filing the mag.

I bought some federal blue box 180grns and will be tryig them next. I have had the rifle apart and checked that all the parts are squared away and lubricated it all. When a single round was put in the mag, it fired and the mag kept the bolt open, but the case would either be halfway out of the ejection port or still inside sitting on the mag. I have a feelinn the buffer spring is just stiff so im storing it with the bolt open to hopefully soften up the spring. I have had this happen on other brand new AR15s and it takes some rounds down the pipe to get everything worn into each other. Higherpressures from a heavier bullet will probably help as well. Im very impressed with how everything feels and how little muzzle rise there is. Thanks for the input everyone. What are you guys getting for accuracy?

see posts above

A heavier bullet does not necessarily equate to higher pressure at the gas port.
If the action is locking open, that's what you want. If the case is not being fully extracted or ejected, check the extractor and ejector.

Mine hates the federal Fusion ammo 150/165/180gr and other soft point ammo. Mine loved all boat-tail ammo. Got sub MOA groups at 100m with amercican eagle. Love my rifle so far. Dropped a TriggerTech adjustable trigger in it.

Anyone finding the charging handle is sharp as heck!? My sissy fingers are getting all chewed up! Going to be lookig into a larger charging handle if anyone knows of a good place to find one!

The spring won't soften by keeping the action locked back. You'll need to cycle it a lot to affect the buffer spring
