NEA Compact Carbine Stock install - Range report up.

Well... I couldn't head out on my Sister's Birthday/Mom's Birthday/Mother's Day so I was out this weekend, first chance I had. I little hiccup, my 7.5" upper was buggered for unrelated reasons I won't get into here, so I will have to head back to test that another weekend. In the mean time, I swapped out a 12.5" upper and quickly put 100 rounds through it before I had to pack up and head home.

Through those 100 rounds, most in rapid secession, it ran without failure aside from the bolt catch. Brass ejected consistently at the 2:00 position. The bolt catch is currently 70/30, 70% of the time it works, 30% of the time it returns to battery. I did cut 2 coils off the spring and did not shave the buffer/bumper.

I installed my CCS on a recently acquired NEA 7.5", and also noticed that I couldn't get the bolt to hold open when pulling the charging handle. After reading this thread I sort of assumed things would be borked for me as well.

Got out to the range yesterday and put 100 rounds through the rifle in 5 round increments, had hold open functioning at 100%. I still can't get it to hold open via use of the charging handle though. This was a more or less stock NEA-15 with a gen1 PMAG and an AGW linear brake installed.

Worked out better than I was expecting...

Was the bolt catch catching the front of the bolt or the front of the carrier when you were firing it. I assume it would be the latter from what you have said. See KevB's pics in post# 126.

It was actually catching the front of the bolt while I was firing. I was able to get it to catch very tenuously on the bolt carrier when charging via the handle.

Will try the spring cutting trick, and see how that works out.

Gentlemen

Are there any updates?

Those of you that have them, have you got it to work reliably yet??

Particularly interested in the 7.5" versions.

If so what was the procedure in what steps.

These are a very neat innovation, and like anything new there are bound to be some hic-ups.

I was hoping to make sure that the steps to make this neat piece of kit work were well laid out and documented.

You help is much appreciated.

regards

AbH

I have one on a 7.5" upper (not NEA). I had to cut 1.5 coils off and shave the end of the carrier (just a smidge). Now runs fine (was having bolt hold open issues). It's about the size/weight of an MP5 (awesome). I'm a big guy so this thing feels real tiny...and it's not the most comfortable to shoot (for me)...but it's a hit with everyone else who holds it/fires it.

I have a NEA collapsible stock on a NEA 7.5". Works fine.

I find the stock a bit short and slightly uncomfortable. But if I needed a compact carbine stored somewhere, this would be the answer.

The rifle functions perfectly. It will be part of my muzzle brake test tomorrow.
