Here's the deal; we recently had a CFO range inspection. Apparently we've been operating inside the wrong template for the last 30 years despite all the previous inspections. Our pistol bays and rifle range have been de-certified, though strangely the CFO won't say we're "closed". But it certainly would not allow us to run the team match, as it sits.
Given our range location it is not possible to do work on the longer ranges, past 200m, until freeze-up. The CFO has said he will issue partial certification for the rifle range and the pistol bays if we do a bunch of dirt work. PCFGA executive feels that we should be able to have the pistol bays and the 50 and 100m rifle ranges re-certified by mid to late September. It won't permit us to include longer range shots, but we can run the match.
We're also exploring the option to hold it in Fort St. John. I really don't want to do this, as I know it would cause many of the long-distance teams to withdraw due to the extra travel time and it puts a hell of a kink in my planning and organization.
Obviously, the final option is cancellation. And I REALLY don't want to do that.
At this time, my plan is to go with a shorter-ranged match in PR. It only affects one stage per day and makes my life a hell of a lot easier. I hope to be able to make a final go/no-go decision by Sept. 19. Waiting that long may rule out moving the match to FSJ as it's really not fair to give that little notice to them . We'll be talking with the FSJ club president next week when he gets back from hunting.
