NEA Stripped Lower SPECIAL, All SOLD

Got mine!

Nice machining, no tool marks. Finish is a little rougher than I'm used to. Solid looking lower overall. Gotta love the Griffin.

Couple of notes I found though.

- Gen 2 PMags are a little tight and don't drop as freely as they should. Might loosen up over time? We'll see. LAR and USGI mags work fine.
- Tried to pair it with a Daniel Defense upper and it did not fit. Either the locking/joining points (or whatever they're called) on the DD is too wide, or the NEA spec is too tight. In any case, DD uppers are a no go for this build. Might go for one of those NEA-15 slick sided uppers though.
- Standard A2 grips (duh) and Ergo grips fit perfectly.

This will be an interesting project to be sure.

I found the same. My Pmags don't drop.

My stag upper doesn't fit, which sucks a lot because its the only upper I have and its my first build. I'm pretty stumped now. I thought they were all supposed to fit???

Got mine today. I must say, I am impressed. I spent a good while noting all the differences, and enhancements compared to my other lowers. I like it.
It would seem its greatest detraction is the finish. You are already dealing with the lowers angularity not matching most rounded uppers, but the colour is different as well.
The solution is simple; buy an NEA upper!

Personally, I am ok with the finish. While
Not as attractive as Matte black, it has a grippy tactile feel.
I like it.

My lower will be arriving today. I was planning on pairing it with my Aero Precision upper receiver and 11.5" Stag Arms barrel. I know that I won't be totally happy with the difference in colour and possible fit. So to save myself the stress, I just ordered a NEA upper receiver. And since the NEA BCG's are on sale, I got one of those too!

Best bet is to pair it with an NEA upper either stripped to build or complete.

Both my Spikes uppers/lowers are tight, one very tight, on other brands.

The loosest fit is when I swap with Colt.

Is there an official "list" of what fits on these lowers?

I'm planning on arma-coating anyways so a bit of machining and filing here and there isn't a big deal but for the average guy... you want them to click together like lego.

The news of having things not fitting right has kinda put a big dent in my plans. I was hoping to do a super cheap build, my own franken gun. But If I can only use an NEA upper whats the point of building my own when I can buy a complete NEA gun right now anyway? I think now I will just sell the lower and when I have the funds buy a complete gun. If anyone is interested in a lower with parts kit installed let me know.

Jumping the gun a little aren't we. You have not put an upper on it yet.
You won't get much for your used lower now.

I'll give you $90 shipped

I bought these lowers becuase for the price I don't mind doing a little 'Smithin to make this work....and a can of paint.

Fit on my norinco upper no problem.

Ive been thinking about getting NEA upper since it seems to be the cheapest right now that i can find.

I received my lower today and plan to build a low cost 7.5" PDW. I haven't had and AR since my Olympic Arms full size 20 years ago. I'm just trying to decide if I will build completely from scratch or buy a complete upper. It will be based on whatever I find cheap I guess.
It's news to me that some lowers and uppers don't fit, I thought the whole idea of the AR platform is that they are manufactured to the same tolerances so they all fit? I thought there was some kind of "milspec" design all manufacturers abided by?

Lots of research to be done!

Why do people keep saying 'LOW COST' build? Just because you got a lower for $95 does not mean the rest of it will be cheap. The last thing you want to do is cheap out on the stuff that effects performance , accuracy and might actually blow-up in your face.

Received my lower today. Built it up and tried to fit my Stag Arms upper and Aero Precision upper with no luck. The NEA lower is too tight! I have ordered a NEA upper, so it better fit like a glove.

I'll be keeping an eye on your success there helidrop. I may also order an NEA upper if you're fits and just replace the Stag one with that and swap out all the parts. I guess you can never have enough spare parts laying around to build another one...

Tight fitting is fine.

You would possibly have the same issues if you purchased say an Alberta Tactical Rifle upper/lower, as their tolerances are very strict.

I have had a few uppers/lowers where this happens.

We have Colts that when uppers/lowers are swapped, they are rattle cans or very tight.

As far as pairing with an NEA stripped upper, it still allows you to make your custom rifle. You need an upper anyway.

Personally I prefer uppers/lowers from the same brand. I am OCD that way.

Guys. You are allowed to FIT the upper/lower.

Geez.

I have had to trim the back of a number of uppers to fit my ATRS Lower. I would rather have it tight than an upper than shakes and rattle because you want it easy to open.

I'll keep you posted on the build. I do look forward to getting the NEA upper so the colours match. Haha, I'm so vain.

Right now I can't even use the new NEA lower with my other uppers. It is beyond tight, they won't physically fit together.

Rivet mine is like helidrops. I managed to get it to the point where everything lines up, but it took a rubber mallet where the rear sight would go. At that point I couldn't get the rear take down pin through. I checked it out and to my untrained eye with a flashlight it appeared to be off by a small margin.

To get it apart took the same liberal application of old smasher on the front of the upper area and over the buffer tube and into the grip to get it loose.

I took my upper and put it on my buddies DD. No issues. While not a "rattle can" it was definitely far from tight.

That being said, I'm not against some amateur smithing, so can you help a fellow nutter out and post some pics of where to file. Its my first build so I don't want to screw it up. I was going to put marker on it and see where it rubs, but I think it will be everywhere in the rear end.
