Neck sizing with F/L die?

yes it can be done. just turn out the die 1/4 turn. i have been told by CGN members that a neck die is better because by only sizing a portion of the neck using a FL die it can cause a donut to form in the neck.

use the FL die until you can find a neck size die.

Not quite true, using f/l and backing it off, you size a portion of the base(body of the case). And neck sizing is just that , you size the neck, and not the body. So the neck size die will make your cases more of a tight custom fit to your chamber. Not real good for hunting ammo, you want to feed without problems.
Also if in a semi, a full length small base sizing die is choice.

Neck sizing

I have a lot of once fired brass that I was going to use to load my TSX with and I thought I would neck size only, but if not recommend for hunting maybe I will stay away from that idea.

Now hang on, partial neck size is ok , if the cases were fired from your gun, no worries. What I said was neck size only is tricky for hunting ammo.;)

If you are shooting Lee Enfields neck sizing will significantly increase case life paricularily if you are shooting cast boolits. Lee Collet die works great.

neck size hunting brass. you should only need 1 round, if it chambers at the start of the day- no problem.

i neck size everything, never had problems.(this advise for bolt action only)

Well then maybe I'll neck size it and try to chamber the round and see what happens. It will be used as hunting rounds (spring bear) so I don't want any problems.
I'm loading 300 winmag.

i've got no experience with belted magnums. you will be able to tell if the shell fits tight in the chamber. if they're much harder to chamber and extract than FL shells, just use FL for hunting.

Neck sizing

Not sure never hunted bears before had many run in's with them while fishing.
Thought about getting a bear call but well see, They are another thing to waste money on.

No way man , bears come to a predator call like liberals to tax dollars. :D
It sure works, heck I called 'em in blowing on a blade of grass. Get on those south facing early green ups.

Ok thanks for the info I got a kick out of the Liberal part!

ha man I reload just neck size for my 6.5x55 bolt for both hunting and target, the advice i would give you is just to cycle them through the gun befor you get to the feld so you knoe the second round is going to go....not that you will need it!!

I FL size for all my ammo(even for my match guns)it's works I am get .3 at 100Meters

I use the Stoney Point Headspace indicator kit. Very simple to use, and comes with adapters for most popular cartridges. It mounts on your calipers and tells you how much you're bumping the shoulder back. I use it to set up my FL dies to bump the shoulder 1 or 2 thou. This approach gets around some of the feeding issues you may encounter with neck sizing, and prolongs the life of brass by not oversizing it. Works great on belted magnums too, since it lets you headspace on the shoulder and forget about the belt.

Full length resize for your bear hunt, don't go everboard on the full sizing, back out the FLS one full turn and start screwing it down 1/8 turn at a time when you feel the handle closing easily on a sized case lock down the die and your done.
Good Luck
