Read something that I have to use lube for neck turning.
Never while trimming or outside neck turning I used lube.

What is your experience ?

Neck turning usually refers to rotating the cartridge mouth on a mandrel while a cutter removes material from the outer face.

In handloading this is usually done by hand or if by machine at slow speed.

I can't see what lube would be needed other than perhaps a very small amount on the mandrel to allow the case mouth to turn without binding. I have not tried this myself as it does not seem necessary.

If the cutter is adjusted properly it should not need any lube, and in fact lube may disrupt the cutter which is basically scraping the outer face of the neck.

In step 5 below you will see a oil pin is used to lube the mandrel, When neck turning I also put a drop of oil on the out side of the neck. The oil on the mandrel and neck makes the operation go smoother with a more even cut, think of a lathe cutting with the oiler running on the piece being turned.
