I was negligent with my shorty (and very busy) and left it sitting for a few weeks after shooting it before I was able to get around to cleaning it last night.

When I went to field strip the rifle I found that I couldn't swing the trigger guard all the way to release the trigger group. It goes about half way and then comes to a hard stop.

I sprayed the crap out of it with wd40 last night and I'll see if that did anything, but I'm looking for any other suggestions to help me remove the trigger group and give the rifle a good clean and lubing.

Any help is much appreciated.

I don't have the answer to your question but I highly doubt letting it sit for a few weeks caused enough corrosion to seize up the trigger guard. I hardly take my action out of the stock to clean it. I have heard of some of the high end guns actually getting glued into the stocks, they get pulled apart once a year to get cleaned.
I would be looking for another reason as to why the trigger guard won't open. Get a flashlight and try to take a look through anywhere you can, to see if something has come apart or lodged itself in the trigger somewhere.

I had that problem during one of Hungry's clinics.

Turned out that a drift pin in the trigger group had migrated slightly and jammed any attempt to free it.

Fellow attendee, SoBored, spotted the obstruction and prodded the offending pin back in place.

Look up from the magazine well.

Thanks I'll have a look.

Edit: I just got the trigger group out. The mag release pin had drifted to the side.

Was gonna say the same thing, that bloody pin wiggles out and jams up against the stock. No biggy. Somebody even did a "how to" showing a quick fix.
