Hey guys!I am looking for a hunting rifle(semi-auto)What brand/model do you recomend.I know that there is alot of different opions out there but I would like to hear them all.I will be using it for caribou and moose.I am not new to hunting big game but I have allways used the old 303 and I want something accurate and up to date,I live up here in Labrador so I can't go down to the local gun shop and try one out,Thats why I need your input. Thanks jwk:) :) :) :)

As far as semi autos there is the Browning bar but they go for over a grand and Remington make the model 7400 synthetic for around $565.00.Expect to pay an extra hundred for one with a wooden stock.I am a bolt action guy so haven't tried either and can't give you much input on them.:).Or maybe somebody on cgn is looking to part with thiers.

Hunting rifle

I saw a couple for sale in the last few days.

One in 30-06 BAR (Browning Automatic Rifle) going for $600 (now $550) and the other, I believe it might be a 7mm mag going for around $650 or $675 (This might have been a BLR??).

If interested, let me know by PM and I will get back to you with the info.

I would buy a Remington 7600 before a semi-auto, esp for someone who lives in a remote area. They are far more reliable.

Get a 30/06 with an extra mag and a 2x7 Bushnell 3200 and you won't regret it.

Before you put any money down on a Remington 7400. Let it be known, it is a jam-o-matic. I'm not trying to bash the 7400 (I have one in .270 and it's my favorite big game gun). But it is really finikey on what it likes to feed/eject and it likes to be clean, very clean.

I would get the 3-10x40 3200 Elite. Brighter, same length, and more eye relief. Plus it looks really nice on my 7600.;)

I wouldn't necessarily say that a 7600 is far more reliable than a BAR. Of course I qualify that with the requirement for proper maintenance. Which is important for any rifle, semi-auto or not, but especially so for a semi-auto.

My vote goes for a nice used Browning BAR in .308 or .30-06

The BAR has been around since the 1960's, and has proven itself many times over. The Short Trac is new, and I am not familiar with the differences between it and the BAR. I guess my point is that I'd rather have a tried and tested rifle, that is a known quantity for a hunting firearm.

Sauer also has a new semi-auto out, but I'm sure it will be quite expensive and again, it is new.

The Benelli R1 rifle has been getting good feedback. Could be the best semi-auto rifle around....with the price tag to match. Expect to pay 300-500 dollars more over a brand new BAR.

JWK- Semi -auto?

Hi JWk In Lab, I have hunted for many years and have owned over a hundred different guns, semi-auto, win 100,rem 742 BAR in 30.06 & 7mmmag etc but the best by far would for you to buy a bolt action,no noise, most accurate, and dependable, and easly maintained, and they work in cold weather
Just my 2 cents of advise.

if you plan on doing some deer hunting, make sure you get a 325 WSM :)

be sure it's semi auto and clip fed. wear a load bearing vest with your extra clips stored up front. don;t forget your magpuls!

The short tracs are awesome rifles... the Benelli R1 is even better.
I have shot both of them and the Benelli is extremely accurate and user friendly... I would buy one in a heartbeat for harsh conditions.
