Need Advice on IPSC Production Division Pistol

The last competition in Sudbury that I attended had two 1911 norcs, a walther ppq, some glocks, and other assorted guns I don't remember.

Just getting started, bring what you have. I would only comment that my sig 226 was a bad choice due to the extreme double action trigger pull. I changed to a norc 1911 and had a blast.

Since then I have purchased a CZ75 in 40 S&W and just today put the money down for a Tanfoglio Stock III special with the extreme upgrades in 9mm. I am hoping it will be as comfortable as the CZ.

If you want to see all of them, PM me and come to our wednesday night shoot at Crean Hill.

Perhaps it would be a good idea to have a service pistol division. That would keep the 700 dollar and 2500+ dollar "production" guns in different groups.

A glock 17 is a great, relatively inexpensive pistol. If you can get used to a glock trigger, the pistols shoot very well and are reliable as heck. The CZ Shadow is also a very reasonably priced pistol, and it is easy to shoot and reliable.

Shoot whatever you're comfortable with. I shoot a Beretta 92A1, place decently and have fun every time.

^^^ +1 for the Beretta!

OP, I'm on the same boat with you, i.e. just about to register to a BB course and hopefully start shooting IPSC production soon. I already have a Ruger 22/45, a Ruger GP100, and a Beretta M9 Commercial, and I enjoy shooting all of them.

So I guess I'm gonna go with the M9 for the production to start with. Sure, having a Shadow might give me more competitive edge, but I'm in it for the fun. If I can score better than other shooters with an M9, that's enough to make my day ;-)

HTH!

Price of the gun isnt relavent. The shadows and stock 2's are nice but they arent the guns you absolutely need to be sucessful. Glocks , M&Ps ruger SR-9s are great too.just because you spend more on the gun doesnt mean you are going to beat the gun with the cheaper gun.

what he said...I like the fit and handling of the stock2,...much more than the glock, or HK, M&P ,..etc. That is why I use it. if the stock2 cost $700, and the glock cost $2000, I would not use the glock because it costs more, I would not use it because I think the fit for me, sucks.

I've used my glock for a few matchs and since Christmas I've been using a cz 75 shadowline and have noticed a major improvement in scores.

To me it seems like it's an easier gun to shoot, so when your stage goes into meltdown the cz seems easier to pull a somewhat recovery. Where as with the glock, when a meltdown starts you end up firing 67 shots a 5 steel plates leaving 3 standing .... In theory .....

Kind of like those guys who buy SVI's and think they will do well in standard??
:)

Totally different situation as Infinity doesn't make a production gun so the magical shooting powers you get from owning one only count in open standard and classic :p

Says the guy with the Infinity. :D

I have used the G17, Shadow and Stock 3 for production. I give my Stock 2 that I currently use the slight advantage due to the bull barrel. I know it's more the shooter than the gun but Eric Grauffel and Ben Stoeger the number 1 and 2 production shooters also use the Stock 2. They just placed 1st and 2nd in the 2013 IPSC USA National Championship and USPSA Nationals (even though Eric also won this one it goes to Ben as a non-US guy can't hold the title).

A new player making waves is the Grand Power Excalibur. I have handled one and am very impressed.

any canadian dealers have this yet?

I am looking into getting my BB and giving this a try. I own a wack of handguns but really nothing for IPSC. In 9mm all I have is a Ruger P85 mk11, and in 40 I own a Ruger P94 and a Norc Np58. I will not be purchasing anything for this, unless I find myself getting really into it. Will this do? Last time I went to watch a match, several hard core dudes were using Norinco's in 9mm and 40's (Sig 226 clones). All I really want to do is only have some fun. Give your opinions please.

Ruger1962 if you have a suitable holster and 4 or 5(better) mags for either they will do for the course. Just get the DA trigger time in and it should work out.
