Need city of birth?

I just did a bit of reading on the C-71, and my wild guess is the OP's concerning issue may be caused by the new law, firearm businesses may have received new directives.

What I have commented previously in the thread was common practice when a business conducting PAL verification, and I realized things may have changed after reading this part:

it mentioned "reference number" ''make'' ''model'' ''type'', all too familier when you compare these to a restricted transfer notification paper

You don't need to provide buyer's Place of birth when initiating a restricted transfer.

Buyer will have to phone in CFO to complete the transfer, and buyer will be asked by CFO to provide buyer's Place of Birth.

i know, i never said you did. when i buy a restricted the cfo asks for my place of birth, when i sell a restricted they ask my place of birth thats what i was saying

So if I buy a rifle brand new and dont "transfer" it if I sell it then for 20 years the CFO has reason to believe I still own it if it ever ended up in the wrong hands thereafter?

So....how is that not a long gun registry?

All the sudden long guns require all the information as a restricted upon sale to clear your name instead of just a confirmation of license before handing the rifle over?

Hi Tenda,

I am curious as to why I need to give you my city of birth when I am ordering a .22 Savage Rascal for my 7-year old. I've given my ID and my PAL, what do you need birth city for? That is highly specific information and I shouldn't be asked for carelessly, or permanently kept.

Thanks

You're not worried about disclosing your location, your IP address, which guns you buy, and the fact you have a 7 year old, all on a public online forum. But somehow place of birth is an issue?

Youza.

New to the sport, and only own three non restricted. On each companies website in the info to put in, Place of birth was a requirement. Wouldn't let me move on past it without it I assumed because I was asked this on my application forms that it was a standard verification process. Interesting to see it's not fully required for non restricteds.

If he's got a cellphone the entire world has access to where he is, where he's from, and where he's going to be. It's unavoidable.

That's what im saying to. Who cares lol I was born in Toronto who cares lolol Now everybody knows lol ridiculous....

The OP is RIGHT. data collection is an issue and I also don't think gun shops are specialists in keeping personal information secure. So the less that is stored or asked the better. Besides, still not everybody is on Social Media, so make the assumption he is is wrong. Besides, you can be and still keep certain information that allows for identity theft more confidential (I never post on my SM when my birthday is and how old for example). Its all about being aware. Do what you want but let others concern be, they are justified.

How can that be used for identity theft? But DOB and Birth place are part of your identity and are used by companies to "identify" you as weak as this is, still is used. Isn't it a joke what they ask sometimes? All more or less public information. Telus asks me My name, Address, stuff about lines, all things that are on my invoice so how is that identifiying? If you disposed of your invoice in the garbage or someone broke in to your mailbox its available to them. Just an example, what does the CFO ask? All information on the PAL plus Birth place, so you could buy a gun with someones information online and until I receive registration 2 weeks are gone by before you can report it to the CFO as fraudulent, but it was already done at that time. I have never tried it, but assume it would be possible, most likely with NR, you would not even know cause there is no registration.

I recently ordered ammo and had to put it in. Really disliked it.

A little exaggerated, and you can disable the GPS function and not use certain functions. Besides I know a bunch of people exactly for that and other reasons not owning a cell phone.
