So I wanted to scope my M1A then decided not to and now having a Bassett mount coming on a impulse buy I'd like a few pointers.

What I would like in a scope:
  • Mil Dot preferably Illuminated
  • Variable - somewhere in the 2 to 14x range
  • Adjustable "Target" Turrets preferably w/ 308Win 150gr BDC Turrets
  • 40-50mm Objective and a 30mm Tube
  • Adjustable Side Focus
  • ARD compatible
  • Cost under 1,500$ (The more expensive the longer I'll have to wait and save :( )

Any ideas ??

After much reading and research I have decided that the Leupold is used by the US military for a reason. It is outstanding. I am saving my pennies in a jar.

The US Army still uses the Leupold. But the S&B is nice sadly out of my price range unless someone ether gives me the scope or the money to buy it! :p

In no particular order: Most don't come with ill reticles.

Nikon Tactical or MonarchX as it is presently called.

Elite 6500 w/mildot

Sightron SIII LR

IOR

Nikon Monarch

Leupold in the appropriate flavour. Next to the IOR, the most expensive in this bunch.

PS I would suggest against the BDC because the chances of it working exactly are not good.

Dimitri, my personal opinion is a leupold mark4 4.5-14x50 m1 with an illuminated TMR reticle, the knobs are 1/4 moa clicks or you can have leupold make custom BDC knobs for cheap (something like 100 dollars at time of order)

i havent checked the prices on night force lately but rick at ATR might be able to get you a nice 3.5-15x50 NXS with in your price range.
they also have a couple s&b 3-12x50mm demo models going for about 2100 ( i wish i could afford one :D )

i have a 6.5-20x50 mk1 illuminated TMR, simply put bushnell and nikon don't come anywhere close.

dmitri, the only problem you might find with that scope is the clicks are pretty coarse ( 1 moa clicks for elevation, 1/2 moa for windage ).

Ummmm, wonder if you have used these upper end scopes?

alot of very experienced shooters seem to think they work just fine vs the Leupold. Even better if the leupold is saddled with their common side focus problems and occasionally sticking turrents.

YMMV,

Yah still debating between maybe going with the M2, but definately wont be going for a M1 turret.

Still at 500 yards its still only +/- 2.5" max difference from actual with a 1 MOA turret, I doubt I will notice that much.

i'd go with a leupold something- keep in mind that you may NOT be able to get what you want out of the states, due to their border controls, and the leupold service centre is in okotoks

t-star, no problems getting mark 4s from the states, i got mine direct from leupold usa 5 months ago, the only one we cant get is the mark4 1-3x14 cq/t

No illumination on the NightForce scopes I believe.

My Nightforce nxs 3.5x15x50 does have an illuminated reticle.I considered a Mark IV until I realized that the Nightforce is priced quite similarly, and has a better reputation among precision shooters than the Leupold.

Below are Canadian prices from one vendor.

NXS1424 NXS 1-4X24 FC2 $ 1275.00
NXS2510 NXS 2.5-10X24 $ 1350.00
NXS1550 NXS 3.5-15X50 $ 1490.00

NXS1556ZS NXS 3.5-15X56 ZERO STOP $ 1750.00
NXS2250 NXS 5.5-22X50 $ 1650.00
NXS2256 NXS 5.5-22X56 $ 1650.00
NXS2256MLR NXS 5.5-22X56 MLR Adjustment $ 1775.00

Nightforce only shows the Bench Rest models with Illumination. Must be discontinued.

You are 100% WRONG.The NXS has an illuminated reticle and it most certainly is available.I bought one just over a week ago.If you don't believe me,ask Rick at Alberta Tactical Rifle,or Peter at Hirsch Precision.
