Could someone who knows what they're talking about tell me if I'm looking at a 250" or 350" bull? I haven't looked at enough elk to narrow it down further than that.

Also, this area where I'm hunting is 300ish acres, mostly alfalfa fields and aspen forest, with a small river running parallel to it off one side. To the north and east is basically endless bush, to the south and west is farmland. Every summer I get several bulls (never a single cow) on camera but never see them once the season opens. I'll be out there on August 25th when archery season starts, any advice? Should I be calling? Are they taking off after the cows because the rut is starting?

He is a nice bull but I don't think he will make 300...

IF you have no cows, then find them, because on September 25th the bulls will be with the cows...

Given the description of your area, I am surprised your problem is not the other way around... all cows and no bulls... I would head into the hills, calling as you go and do some scouting for rutting behaviors... is all the bush country crown land?

Good luck.

I'll be hunting on August 25th, so I'm hoping they will still be there then. It's private land, there's crown bush north and east and farmland south and west.

Feed in a particular area is about 2 weeks for a heard
your bull is not far from his cows in the last 2 weeks he could move as far as 3 km
this time of year he's at his destination .
they move 6-12 klm to summer and fall graze / go nocturnal for a few weeks till snow then push back down
I would be inclined to start 3 Kms back and push toward your camera .
when you find his cows stay with him .he is there standing in the shadows

Cool thanks guys. My only elk to date is a young 5x5 from near the Kakwa River. I'm just stumped on how to hunt them, all the farmland elk I've seen always wait till dark before they step out. Guess I'll try calling and stinking.
I found these sheds in the same area this spring. Smaller, but he'd be a shooter too.

I have a 6x6 (Gross 332 even / Net 320 6/8) from a couple years ago that is a "little" bigger than the one in the game camera, but not a whole helluva lot.
