I bought this rifle in Swift Current, Saskatchewan about '91 or '92. I paid $114 for it. I wonder if the experts on this board could tell me a bit about it and what it is worth. I have shot it, and it appears to be quite accurate, even with iron sights. It is, of course, in .308. Any information greatly appreciated.

Its a 1943 German K98K, built at byf, or Mauser-werke, Oberndorf. It was the 2nd most produced code and year of the Nazi K98K. they made over a million that year.

Youres has been rebuilt for/by Israel. They rebarreled it, scrubbed it, and renumbered it.

It looks like it has the dropped bayo lug of a Spanish M43 mauser, Ive not seen that before on an Israeli rifle.

I suspect its not the original stock. Israeli mausers usually had a 762 branded into the wood as well. It looks like an stock from another mauser. Maybe some other mauser variant or refurb as that is not original german serial numbering. But it is a german stock, seen by the Eagle over the H. No idea on the dropped lug.

That bayonet lug adapter is pretty weird on an Israeli. Possibly someone put this together from spare parts? As CanadianAR pointed out, the stock is probably not original to the Israeli conversion. It should have the 7.62 brand on it.

Thanks for the info. Any idea what its worth in its current state? I was thinking about a scope mount on the rear sight. I just don't want to damage it .

I would put a value of anywhere between $350-$550 if you got the right person.

But likely closer the the middle of that range.

Scope it, but no drilling haha.

The only rifle ive ever seen with that secondary mount is a spanish M43, as they used a non M98 style bayo. No idea why this one has it.

Bad pic of it but you can see it. I also have the proper bayo that goes on.

Argentine 1909 Mauser rifles used a similar(same) device, which allowed the use the Model 1891 Bayonet.
