Just bought a Stag Arms AR (5.56). Looking for suggestions for optics. I'm a newbie. Any advice would be appreciated.

Aimpoint PRO is what I'm choosing for my RobArms XCR, I intend to shoot 3 gun with it, so mostly fairly short ranges, but I'll get the 3X magnifier when I can afford it.

Low to no budget red dot - Bushnell TRS25 - $125
Low budget variable (1-4x) - Millet DMS - $260
Medium budget red dot - Aimpoint Pro - $499
Medium Budget variable (1-4x) - Vortex Viper - $550
Big budget red dot - Aimpoint T1/Comp M4 - $650/$775
Big budget variable - S&B Short Dot (1-4x) - $2600

All of these are solid choices that will function reliably - as dollar values increase precision, clarity, ruggedness and battery life increases.

A quality AR deserves a Quality Red Dot.

Ive learned this.

I started with an AImpoint PRO, awesome Red Dot at an Awesome price. I never thought Id own an AImpoint at all based on price.

Ive gone through varying lower budget red dots trust me.

But then I handled an AR with an Aimpoint H-1 Micro.

No comparison.

I saved and saved which didnt take too long, and I got one. Im so glad I did.

Its under 4 oz on the rifle, and the price jump from the PRO to the MICRO vs. the drastic weight reduction is totally worth it.

My advice, is to save a bit more and get the Micro. Im so totally stoked I was able to, and based on my savings plans, it only takes a few months to have enough coin for one.

Depending on your budget, an acog is perfect for my needs.

If you don't want magnification, eotech or aimpoint are excellent too. Personally I prefer eotech even if I know that aimpoint are more rugged.

I've got an Aimpoint PRO on my AR. Eotech is great too. For a lower budget dot go with Vortex. I don't have much experience with magnified scopes, but you can't go wrong with an ACOG.

I'm using an aimpoint PRO for mostly CQB stuff. Really awesome and no regrets. I've got a magnifier on the way for some of the longer shots.

Probably gonna get a Comp m4 for my next AR because of the AA battery.

Been really happy with my vortex strikefire red/green dot. Came with screw in magnifier.... Havnt used it yet...

The job dictates the tool.

This is the only correct answer thus far. Until the OP indicates his intended role/purpose for his rifle, and a desired range(max range and min range) there is no sense offering any advice.
