Need optic advice for AR

Been really happy with my vortex strikefire red/green dot. Came with screw in magnifier.... Havnt used it yet...

I have this sight as well. I am extremely pleased with it for anything inside 65 yards. I do have a beef with its 4 MOA dot though as there are some longer shots at plates in some of the 3-gun shoots. It is difficult to shoot the plate when the dot buries it. If I was to do it again I would save up and get something with a 2 MOA or less.

Keep in mind that reddot sights were/are designed for rapid shots on nominal/human sized targets. They do not excel at semi precision distance based shots such as clays or small steel plates. That's not saying it can't be done but it loses its advantage.

TDC's right, unless we know his requirements are, it's really a waste of time spouting off all these optic makes and models.

Very true. As for myself, I'm trying to find a "compromise" and have tried the Burris MTAC 1.5 x 6 x 40 scope. Good scope. 1.5 power for the short CQB stuff and 6X for the 200+ meter stuff. It'll work on an AR---not so much on my ACR due to slight interferance with the upper handguard charging handle and the objective lens bell.

I might end up selling it, which is too bad because I just got it:( Someone get me a Waaambulance!

I fully agree. I too run a low power optic, a Trijicon TR24. Low power optics are about the best compromise between fast reddot types and high(er) powered magnified optics. I'm a big fan of no batteries either as far as illumination is concerned.

Leupold Prismatic 1x if you want no magnification.
Leupold Mark AR if you want a scope (3-9x, T2 .223 BDC turret).

I have both Aimpoint PRO and EOTech XPS2 and pulled both off of my XCR in favor of the Prismatic, better built, better glass, fixed/lit red reticle, fully co-witnesses.

I use a Zeiss Diavara 3-9x on my RRA Varmint model.
It would probably less than ideal for CQB stuff but that isn't on my agenda .
It and the rifle can shoot MOA some days even with the weak third link (me)

Thanks guys. Have been looking at the Aimpoint Pro. $500 from Questar. Anywhere else cheaper??

I'm going to start w the irons and see how far I can push it until I being to fail. Then I'll try a sight. Can't always depend on technology, but the sights will always be there.
