I'll be buying a new rifle for my wife in the near future. She's had her eye on on the Ruger Hawkeye compact laminate stainless in 7mm-08 for a while now. I'm kicking myself that I didn't get it for her five months ago when it would have been cheaper, but finances didn't quite permit then - argh.
We've stuck to Leupolds from the start on our centerfires. The VX-1 line so far has proven to be good optics and reliability for the money, and the one time we needed service it was handled very, very well.
Problem is they don't seem to have a silver one in 2-7 power until you get up to the 2.5-8x36 VX-III. This will be her main hunting rig, so the price may be justifiable.
I don't have anything against other brands - just Leupolds have served us well. There is a 3200 2-6x32 listed on the Bushnell website. From looking at other 3200 scopes in shops I've figured that the 3200 is about equivalent to the VX1 line in price and quality but (a) I'm not an experienced judge of optics and (b) I have not had a chance to look through one under low light conditions. This scope doesn't seem to be stocked by any of the big Canadian retailers, but Camera Land stocks them and I'd be happy to support a CGN sponsor.
So:
1) What can you tell me to expect from 3200 series scopes?
2) Is there another Canadian source for the silver B3200 2-6x32?
3) Is there a Leupold option that I've overlooked?
4) Has anybody ordered from Camera Land? - I gather they are US based - I don't suppose that they currently get into problems exporting hunting scopes to Canada?
4) Other brands and scopes to consider.
Thanks,
RG
