Doesn't look too bad to me. More photos would be nice. This type is manufactured from new as opposed to being converted from muzzleloader. The broad-arrow/ I on the lock plate may indicate India "stores" but there is also a Canadian marking on the butt. Tell your friend not to do anything that might reduce its value like over aggressive cleaning (or any sanding of the wood).

The broad arrow over I is indeed an India service marking. However, there has been some discussion on another board about the prevalence of this marking on Canadian service carbines. Nobody knows for sure for what or why it is there.

Good advice not to clean it up too much. A ballpark value for a decent Snider cavalry carbine today is $800cdn and up.
