Need some opinions on my first 9mm

All good guns. That's a good list to Add in the Beretta and Sig's ability to run 40 cal mags and get a 13rd capacity, legally - and it narrows the choice a little (if that matters to you).

I didn't know about the 40 cal mag option. This is why CGN is awesome! Good point on the resale too. Nice guns will always have a demand.

I have a CZ 75B, which I got on sale (part of the reason why I bought it and not a Shadow). It's a gateway drug. I need an SP-01 Shadow Line, CZ 97B, and a Kadet .22 kit now. Love the 75B to death, but I want more.

Thanks to all those who replied. I ended up going with the CZ75-Shadow. I'm really happy with the choice. It's a real beauty and a lot of gun for the price. Up next is a new 1911 in .45.

All good guns. That's a good list to pick from, don't think you can make a mistake with whatever you choose. Personally, I sold all my 1911's, thought the single stack design was dated. Add in the Beretta and Sig's ability to run 40 cal mags and get a 13rd capacity, legally - and it narrows the choice a little (if that matters to you).

If you want the CZ, pay a little more and get the Shadow, it's much better than the plain CZ75.

Don't skimp, buy the nicest pistol you can afford as in the long run, ammunition will be your largest expense. Skimping and buying a pistol that you later will upgrade, causes you to lose resale value and taxes. Always buy the best you can afford at the beginning. I've found out the hard way.

Exactly what st1264 said. Got my first pistol last October and went all in. I got me a Sig P226 Elite Dark 9mm. LOVE it !!! My second one, and I thought this was the last, was that I wanted to get a plinker/target/elcheapo-on-ammo gun so I got a nice deal on a Ruger mkii 22 cal from a guy here on CGN. Then while I was at the range back in March, I shot a friends Glock 45 acp and I was hooked on .....wait for it....45 acp...not glocks...not big on glocks, not a fan of polymers, don't like em at all. But I'm a HUGE Sig fan boy...So I got to searching for a 45 acp. But I can't deny I have a soft spot for the 1911. I finally found one again here on CGN. Got a nice low round count Sig 1911R BSS Nitron 45 acp. Shot about a 150 rounds on it so far and I love it more with each round I shoot with it. I can honestly say I love all three guns because now I have a gun from each major platform in my book. Small caliber to shoot cheap, the 9mm with a fantastic feel, and the large bore 45 acp for dessert :)

st1264 said it right when he said by the best you can get because ammo will be the bigger expense. See, what I do when I hit the range, I treat it like going to the gym; I warm up with my 22 (I can shoot 200 rounds for like $15), then I move to my 9 for punch and fun, then I save my 1911 for the "dessert". I'll shoot about 50 rounds, then if I still feel the need to "pew pew", I'll head back to the Ruger. I have the best of 3 worlds with my hardware. Good luck with your shopping and hope this helps bud

Hi Power is classy, but has an utterly rubbish trigger out of the box that isn't trivial to fix up. Mine was a good 11 pound pull. Driving out the trigger pin requires the strength of Atlas, the hammer of Thor, and a jewelers precision.

1911 in 9mm continues to disappoint me. I just plain don't like the feel of the gun as it works. It's like 9 mice farting in sequence.

Beretta - didn't like the trigger. One of the worse aspects of its lineage.

CZ Shadow - if you want an all-steel gun, this should be on your shortest short list - Don't get a B model

That's my nutshell ;)

As of right now, this post has become my absolute favourite! Laughed 'till the tears blurred my vision, then had to remember why I began reading the OP...

Oh yes...9mm suggestion...I went with the Beretta when faced with the same dilemma.

I got to fire the Shadow and P226 side by side.
The Shadow (even though it was a range gun with thousands of rounds through it) was a tack driver.
The 226 was still a very nice pistol just not as accurate.

Good thread! I am also looking to buy a new 9mm semi now. I have a FEG 9mm and a Taurus 92 AFS. I am torn between purchasing a CZ shadow or a Sig p226 Elite or MK 25. Which do you think is a better survival pistol in cold or adverse weather? I would like accuracy as well but would like to have a pistol that is reliable even in bad weather. Are the Sig's with the special coating really that good?

when you said "survival pistol in cold or adverse weather", did you mean carry, or just target practice out in the cold? shadow is a competition gun, not meant for carry. then between 226 elite and mk25, elite is the way to go given the SRT trigger. I have the extreme with SRT as well. Such a great pistol!

Not for carry. What I mean is a pistol that you don't have to worry about storing or condensation changes. Basically something that will endure over the years with minimal care. You seem to favor the sig, which I am thinking is probably better suited to adverse elements too.

thanks

I see. in that case, either cz75 or p226 will work for you. all brand name guns are good quality with little maintenance required. not just online, I have seen people with 1911, when they clean it, they don't even disassemble, just hose down with cleaning fluid and blow dry with compress air. it's not recommended, but I shot that gun just fine. and they have been doing that for years. So, it's just a piece of machine, like cars or heavy duty tools. it's up to you how much efforts you want to put in to maintain it. That is, you have to make sure it's safe and sound.

I don't have a preference between the two, just got the p226 as it was on sale, and for sure will get one cz down the road as it's a must-have for me even though I have no intention to ipsc or idpa, yet. :)

check out my posts, I am 6 months new and came up my own 10-pistol list. to name a few, p226, cz75 sp-01 shadow, PPQ M2, HK30L(I want it for 40S&W due to the great recoil system, but it has 9mm), and then the normal m&P40/G22 with 9mm barrel(I have the barrel for M&P40 now, and may leave the G22 to 357sig barrel). so, far, I have only p226 and MP40 with 9mm barrel in 9, others are 40s&w & 45ACP. my goal is to be familiar with the common models and calibers. So, depending on what you want, you can create your own list.

"This new generation of CZ 75 SP-01 Shadow pistol is designed for Law Enforcement, Military service, Self-defense, General Range Use and Competition."

Thanks for the help folks. I went and ordered a CZ SP 01 Shadow. The all steel construction and good accuracy sold me. Also it is considerably less money than a Sig.

Thanks
