Hey everyone I am lounging at buying a new 30-06 for deer and elk but I am torn. I own a Browning BLR and love it and wondering if I should go with the X Bolt. Or go with either a winchester model 70, vanguard series 2nd or tikka T3. Anyone suggestions and input would be greatly appreciated.

First object in buying a new rifle:

How it fits your frame!!!

Handle as many as you possibly can and determine which one feels , handles, aims the best in your grasp. Is it an extension of you or is it like trying to hold out a 10' 2 x 12???

Chambering, magazine, finish , etc... that all comes second.

Everybody has their favs. I love my Browning BPS shotgun. The X bolt is a great rifle but it will cost you. The 70 is good too but also pricey for a novice.
If you are on a budget, look into a Savage 11/111 trophy hunter XP. I got this advice from an experienced hunter.

if you already have a Browning BLR and love it and are thinking X-bolt, go for it! You'll love it, too! I know from first hand experience.;)

All the rifles you list are fine choices. Best bet is to handle them. A few years back I saved up my pennies, determined to get a T/C Icon in 300 Win Mag based on all the reviews I had read. The day finally came, I went down to the gun shop and they had one in stock! I was ecstatic until I picked the thing up. Felt like a 2x6 in my hands for whatever reason, so I went in a different direction. Pick them up before you buy!

it would be in anyones best interest to have a stock fitted regardless of how well you think a factory stock works for you.

I agree with kennymo...all your choices would work just fine, you should pick the one that fits you best. I have a new M70 and love it...I also have some older Rem 700s and love them too!

I own a BLR as well and it's my favourite bush gun.

But from the rifles you suggested its a T3 hands down. Anyone who said anything else has probably never handled one. Tikka and sako have a action like no other. Accuracy out of box is ridiculous. It is a solid built gun. I have one in 270 and this thing is good enough to be used in long range precision shooting let alone hunting. I shoot in Ora matches and I use a savage that's set up for the precision matches. Only reason is because there are more aftermarket parts available for Remington and savage. But if your looking for the best hunting rifle. I say time and time again on this forum T3 all the way.

Lots of people, myself included take issue with a few things on the Tikka. Mainly, plastic bolt shroud, plastic bottom "metal", flimsy mag (expensive too!), injection molded stock (certainly not exclusive to the Tikka)

My advice is to get either a Ruger M77 or a Win M70. Both are excellent rifles, made entirely of steel and are just as accurate as any other factory offering. First upgrade on any rifle in the price range is a bedding job and an aftermarket trigger.

You guys who own BLR's and are so happy with them - you do know they are available in different calibers...

The first decision is caliber... why get something close to what you already have...

So what caliber do you have now?

I said M70... which is a good choice from your list... but I am also a big fan of the Ruger M77 MKII Hawkeye... especially the All Weather... it would be a great choice also.
