Need Suggestions: Unrestricted Semi-Auto 223

I just picked up a used Mini 14 target with the thumb hole stock. I had a regular Mini years ago and was disappointed with its accuracy so I got rid of it. The target version has impressed me so far. Only had it to the range once and with a load I use in my Tikka I was getting groups in the 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" range. I think with a bit of load development and maybe a little research into what can be done to improve the trigger it will be a one inch gun no problem. I found this one on a buy sell paper for Vancouver Island for 800.00 with a nice 3X9 Bushnell 4200 scope which I think was a steal of a deal. I'm sure it will make a great Coyote gun and 300 yard shot should be doable.
 
I have both the mini 14 and su16. Both shoot 2" groups at 100 m.
Both shoot reliably.

I prefer the su16 because it's a lot lighter to carry.
I also found my blued mini new model tends to rust really easily when out in the rain.

Isn't that a pump action? I ask because the OP wanted an accurate semi. I thought about a pump action too (looked at the Troy PAR) in truth, bur decided the ergonomics just didn't go well with target shooting, either bench or prone.

Damn, with all this talk about the SL8, I actually looked for this rifle at Edmonton Cabela's North today and it was nowhere to be found. All good I guess as I might have been mighty tempted again. I guess that would be hard to explain to the wife.. sent out to get milk and diapers and come home with an SL8.

Could have been at the south location. Just tell her that it was on sale and you really couldn't afford not to buy it. She'll understand as soon as you say SALE. Lol
