I can't give specific information as I was not a direct witness and those who were prefer not to pursue the issue due to it involving relatives of neighbours but I just have to rant.

Correct me if I am wrong but draw moose season ended nov 14 in sask and this took place yesterday. First it involves the shooting of a moose on a posted home quarter of land that is well marked by signage and a fence. Second the people who live on the quarter were lied to. Third it was taken out of season.

The people I know we're sitting in their house having breakfast when two hunters knocked on their door saying they shot a moose on their land and it walked over onto the other quarter. My people said the land was posted as this is the home quarter where everyone lives, quads, skates on the frozen ponds and so on. The hunters then say the moose was dead but they would leave it because they did not know the land was posted. ( total BS ). The land owners tell them because it was dead they could fetch it. The landowners are not hunters and were unaware of any regulations ( and an elderly couple).

I went there today and did a little investigating at the kill site.

Blood trail led back to the mooses bed which was 300 yards in from the fence not on the shooters land. No blood in the bed and no tracks coming from the other land. Found the truck tracks on the hunters quarter where they shot from. They were only 450 yd from the persons shop in plain view.

I am furious about this but cannot do anything as I was not there at the time and have been asked to leave it alone because the elderly couple fears what may happen if the neighbour retaliates. If there is a slim chance that the hunter who did this reads this please know that I know who you are and I will be moving into that quarter of land in the next year or two and you will not get away with this BS this once I am there. There are people who are always out and about on this quarter and you shot towards buildings and areas where kids often are out playing. This is why the land is posted. The owners graciously allow hunters on other parts of their land that are away from the house. You made a dangerous shot at an animal standing on posted land. Plus it is out of season and I wonder if you even have a tag. If I was there I would of phoned the CO or RCMP and had charges pressed.

Mods if this post crosses any lines do what you need to but I just had to vent.

Sounds pretty douchey man. Just remember them. If you are going to be moving into that area in the next couple of years, they're going to pull another one of these little stunts again and you can get them for it then. Deferred gratification.

I would but the land owners who are quite elderly have asked me not to. They are really worried about payback from these idiots and as I live 100 miles from there right now they are pretty vulnerable. And we all know how much protection you have from the police when you live in rural sask.

I will help them fix up fences and gates and a couple of other things to help keep people off the land for now.

It's up to us as hunters to deal with our own if you ask me, either report it or deal with them yourself. Bring other like minded friends if need be.

If we expect innocent Muslims to act against their bad, so should we act against ours. Get it dealt with one way or another or we are allowing evil to exist by doing nothing.

I am very torn about this. If I lived there or near there it would be one thing but my fear is acting on this puts two helpless people at risk.

Explain to the elderly couple why this is so important, from a legal, ethical and conservation stand point. Show your support and be there when a report is taken... I would go out of my way to do so if it was me.

What do you do...no worse than the stupid idiots that shot 2 buffalo at Elk Island National Park.

"Officials at Elk Island National Park are asking for the public's help in identifying one or more poachers after two of the park's bison were shot and killed.

Parks Canada says the two animals were killed on the weekend of Oct. 17 near the park's north entrance.

According to a statement released by the parks service, one of the animals was dragged about 800 metres north to a field where some of the meat was removed.

Officials say a white Dodge pickup truck with extra grill lights and a rooftop light bar was spotted in the area around the time of the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to call Parks Canada wardens at 1-877-852-3100"

Poachers are real low life...but I can understand why an elderly couple would not want to be involved.....

Don't know what part of province you're in, and in no way am I gonna defend someone shooting on posted land, but there is a regular open Moose season which reopened in certain zones on Nov. 20. If this occurred in a zone that is not a part of this season, then I completely feel the conflict of report vs not report. Do what you think is right, and even if you don't report chances are it'll happen again when you are there.

Wish I could be more help!

If the family is using the complete animal to feed their family or helping out single moms I wouldn't consider it poaching...in true canadian tradition that is called subsistence hunting. :)

Not the case. No treaty rights and this is private not crown land. One thing for sure is whether or not the couple that owns the quarter reports them I will be having a chat with them. I have to respect the wishes of the landowners and also I did not witness it myself however, I will do everything I can to be sure it doesn't happen again.
