Need to reclassify 18.5 inch M1 Carbine ++ UPDATE post 40 ++

So I mailed and faxed, just to be sure they received them, the reclassifications done by Red Deer Shooting Centre to miramichi about 2 months ago. I called yesterday to see if the registrations were still on my list of restricted firearms and low and behold they couldn't find them. She said there is no indication the registrations exist any more so she assumes they've been removed from their system.

Job done!!

Nice!

Just reading the update and realized I was certainly remiss in not acknowledging Klondiker at the time for the excellent job he did on my carbine to bring the chamber into spec. Thanks again man...and also thanks for bringing the Garand out just so I could hear the "ding" for real and not on a movie/TV screen.

the negative thing with doing this to GI rifles is it IS a bubba you have destroyed the original rifle now IIRC the cfc will NOT let you put the original barrel back on either

The Canadian Firearms Program does not dictate what barrel you can and can't put on your firearm. All they control is whether or not they will issue a certificate for it. If they refuse to issue the certificate you can go to court over it.

TO my knowledge there is no reason why an M1 receiver with a short barrel would be precluded from being lawfully registered as a restricted firearm.

That's fine and dandy but the CFC will NOT allow you to take a NON restricted m1 carbine that was restricted and make it restricted again

If they refuse to issue you a registration certificate you S74 their asses. I assume that is what Cam is getting at?

I’m glad I could help tick a box on your bucket list. Everything worked out well for both of us. Thank you

No, it wasn’t required. It turned out that was misinformation from first person I spoke to at the CFC.

I went through this same thing recently on a different firearms and after calling around all the gun stores in Calgary I quickly realised they were ALL inept and had no clue what they were talking about.

Calgary Shooting Centre: Told me only their gunsmith can "verify firearms" and he only does it for new shipments of product they receive (that's not even remotely the job of an RCMP verifier);
The Shooting Edge: Only JR can verify firearms and he is busy (maybe try training other staff members? It is a free online course after all)
Pro Line Shooters: Yes we can verify it but you have to surrender the barrel to us and we have to keep the firearm for several weeks (make up rules and enforce them).

Pro Line was by far the dumbest answer I received.
