(never mind, OLD, OLD, OLD, please IGNORE)

1) Never answer questions over the phone.

2) I would call the hotel and speak with the manager.

3) I would call the customer relations dept @ the hotels head office.

And I'm pretty sure I'd be getting a free stay.

Incidentally... without a warrant I believe its a violation of privacy laws for your phone # to be given out.

send an email to the NRA and the cssa they may get some good results by contacting the hotel

there is NO way empty ammo boxes should get a call from the RCMP

had it been me I would have said your a cop? well im the prime minister then hung up

.... There's a lot of LOW LEVEL Police enquiries conducted over the 'phone. Logic provides the answer, in that it's quick and painless and frees up rescources for other matters. Obviously one has the options of either answereing the questions, asking where the caller is calling from, and then checking and calling back after having verified the number as being legitimate, or refusing all co-operation and thus forcing the Police to attend in person (or having you interviewed at your point of departure if flying, and running the risk of missed connections etc.) or when you arrive home, having a Police Officer waiting on the doorstep, so to speak. The choices are yours to make......................................................................................................................................................................................................... Obviously you also have the option to write a letter of complaint to the Hotel and to the General Manager of the Hotel chain, outilineing the circumstances and your concern that the Hotel Staff seriously over reacted and caused you embarrasment and undue hardship. Reality is that we don't live in a perfect world, and 9/11 and simialr events are foremost in the minds of all staff at public venues. Better safe than sorry is a logical approach ......David K.

^ this is ####ed... some empty carboard boxes in the trash warrants a police inquiry? Yet if some ####er robs your house, they wont even show up? If Hilton pulled this #### on a guest in the US they would be blacklisted by the NRA and looses hundreds of thousands of guests. We should put up a fight and say no way here either..

This wasnt loose ammo left in the toilet....

holy jeeezuz crap i have thrown out empty ammo boxes by the dozen usualy at the mc d's , timmys, gas station and wherever else i happen to be when i do the weekly cleaning of the jeep. i can just imagine the kinda crap i would be starting

From what I saw in the video, nothing impressive about that... ;)

A good question is why did the rcmp bother calling, about EMPTY BOXES? I mean, if they have their 2 billion dollar computer system, they can easily check that the person who was registered there was licenced, they had access to the info about the ATT for the match, plus it WAS JUST EMPTY BOXES.

Please... spare me the nonsense about a post 9/11 world, WTF does that have to do with shooting, guns, or IPSC? When was the last time terrorists attacked anything with guns, in the western world?

If we had ipsc shooters walking around a hotel with guns hanging off their belts, OK, I can see why the hotel would get nervous. I failed to see the issue in what was done by the guest.

cause they know its easier to harass a legal owner than it is to actually do solid work and go after criminals. What they did was nothing more than harassment. The hotel should be accountable as well.

X2!!!!

Ammunition is a legal and safe consumer item that can be purchased at multiple retail sales locations across Canada. An empty cardboard ammunition box should've warranted no extra consideration than an empty condom wrapper or pizza box.

The Hilton certainly breached your privacy by providing your name and cell phone number to the local RCMP. If there was a file opened with your name on it, it may cause you problems down the road getting firearms transferred (i.e., instead of instant transfer, having them sent to "the province" for review because you're on the FIP list.)

I wouldn't have answered any questions over the phone. To verify I was actually speaking with an actual RCMP officer I would've had him identify himself and his detachment, called the detachment and have them connect me with said constable....if I was so inclined to speak with him.

Definitely call and write a letter of complaint to Hilton Hotels. At the very least they breached your privacy, caused you embarrassment and forced you to deal with a potential police investigation, when you did absolutely nothing wrong! We're not going to advance our rights as responsible firearms owners by hiding from the public and appearing to be ashamed of who/what we are. Those A-holes should comp you a full weekend, meals included for your stress.

.... OMEN, if nothing else, from a Police perspective, once a "complaint" has been taken/filed (and it's not possible for them, to just ignore a complaint) it must be Investigated before it can be written off.... thats just the way it is. .... David K.

Guys,

If the RCMP receive a complaint(a call or request for info, etc...), the officer who is assigned to the complaint has no choice but to investigate (poor bastard).

The most cost effective way would have been to place a telephone call to the "supposed" offender (shich they did)...trust me, if the officer thought there was a real concern a personal visit would have been conducted...not arranged..CONDUCTED! The officer MUST obtain a satisfactory answer but once he got that he called it for what it was... a colossal waste of time... I'm sure he saw it as so and his report reflects it).

So, boycott the hotel but don't blame the service that conducted what amounts to a very cusory investigation... yes, we own guns... the majority of the public does not like it... even though they will gladly pay to see shootings at the movies etc.

yeah don't blame the gravel road cop that had to call Omen, blame the stunned **** at the hotel that complained in the first place.
And I'd throw it into Paris, just to say I did. Nicole Richie? nope not a chance, a scarecrow and a rotten pumpkin would be more fun.

..because they haven't a f**king clue! This could easily turn into a cop-bashing thread.

As gun owners we should all be mad about this, not hiding in the closet shredding your cardboard boxes before throwing them in the trash. The hotel staff did not do the 'right thing' as there was nothing to be done. The lieberal brainwashed paranoid staff should have emptied the trash and moved on to the next room, not called the RCMP to thwart a terroist plot. But I guess if you think of the children, and it saves just one life, it's all OK.

Omen, I would certainly call the hotel to complain. We are gun owners, not suspected criminals.

yeah exactly... I bet that if this was like Texas, the hotel clerk would be fired for being a retard. We own this stuff legally, justify nothing. BTW, does this not make you pause to wonder what they wouldve done had they have known you actually had firearms in your room? You probably wouldve had the ETF kick in your room door at 2am then maybe tazer you.

Perhaps if you choose a profession where its your job to enforce the law, you might actually take some more time to learn the law. How can you start and investigation in regards to somebodies legally disposed of garbage? wtf?

Ok, we're talking about similar, but different things here.

Hotel cleaning staff find boxes of what looks like scary ammo ####; they call the cops, cops come, boxes are empty, done deal. I can't believe that in NS they had noone around who wouldn't be afraid to open an ammo box to see if it's empty, and felt they call the RCMP!?!?. Or even just lift one up, because thet can tell from its weight that it's empty. Downtown Toronto, sure. Rural NS? Come on...

What was the point of the phone call to me? The investigation at that point was over - no crime was committed. What was the point of bothering me about it?

Well, USP, I agree but it isn't a matter of "knowing the law" , it's a matter of force policy and that policy is.. when a complaint is made, an investigation must ensue (I don't agree with it either, oh, and, yes, I do know the law... quite well too...):) Furthermore, once garbage is disposed of, there is no right to privacy etc... case law, it's deemed to be abandoned..sucks, I know.

It sucks, but thank God the officer had the where-with-all to realize it was a frivolous compliant..too bad that Public mischief doesn't apply!?! It also appears that the clerk or whomever at the hotel is not aware that the hotel room is your residence for the duration of your stay and therefore, there is a strong degree of privacy.. hmm... sounds like it's time for a strongly worded letter......OMEN, get to work with that pen bro!
