New 1 mile long range soon to be open

Wanted to try out the new range today but with all this dam rain it really put a stop to that idea. Still wanted to check it out so grabbed my neighbour and went for a drive. Turns out I used to drive the "L" road every couple days about 4yrs ago so not much chance of getting lost. I wrote the milages down if anyone needs it. Well after opening the gate and walking up to the "Longest Mile" position it was definitely an impressive sight, WOW, this place is huge. I know I'm going to enjoy it.
Thanks to the executive, sponsors, and volunteers for this great facility.

Just something to consider for future as an add on....
Bunkhouse facilities for those that travel ..can stay over a few days.... Doesn't need to be 5 star but better than a tent :)
Reloading facilities ...a great place for LR load development.
Would love to try this place out ,but a little bit of a long drive from here.
Am envious.

So me and stevesummit made it out on Saturday to go ring the gong at 1 mile. Strange to see that after a month the steel was still virgin. Well it isnt anymore!! Hits on with my .284 (Nice 15" 6 round group), hits with the .338 Improved, and the .338 Snipetac.

Some things that were recognized and as with any new range, natural bugs that will be worked out. There are some line of sight issues. Currently, the 1100m targets are barely visible above the 1000m backstop and there are no targets at the 1000m. We had to jump straight from 600m to 1200m. The 1600m torso is hung from some really thick rubber. This makes it difficult to spot any misses that the rubber soaks up as you dont see the puff of dirt. There is also some large poles that are from the target stands that need to be cut down to size as they intrude into the line of sight for further backstops/targets. At the 1600m, the sign for the 1600m is immediately right of the gong and any misses right go through the plywood again soaking up the miss. Spotting misses is already difficult at that distance without additional obstacles.

Despite a few nuances, it was a great day and holy crap! Being able to go and set up your rifle and bang steel at multiple distances was fantastic. Great job to everyone involved. If Barry is ok, I dont mind chainsawing down the tops of those posts next time we are out. We can even move the sign out of the way.

I would suggest using chain to hang the gong as well. Better swing and ring, even if it gets shot down once and a while. Or thinner and longer rubber. Looked like tires.

There is a camp ground about 15km from the range on the Robb Highway.

Hey there
would be able to provide some detailed direction please so I can check it out
Thanks

Go West of Edson a couple of Kms to the Robb Highway and head South for 35.5 Km. You will cross a bridge and it will be your first right onto the "L" road. Go 7km and right into the range. You need a membership and the gate combo to get in. Well worth the $80 per year membership. Hell, well worth the $1,000 lifetime membership which is what I got!!

Thanks bud made it out on Monday already had a membership I'm a townie. This is great and I'm just getting started in long distance shooting, can't wait until the gongs from 700 to 1000m are up. As it turns out I use that road on occasion to do some work on a couple leases down there

Well, checked out the range today in the rain. Pretty sad that 3 out of the 4 benches are shot up. I also picked up a couple hundred 9mm brass from around the benches on the 1600m firing point. Also, there is only 1 gong. It's at 300m

There where gongs at 300, 400, 500, 600, 1100 (could only see the top over the 1000m backstop), 1200, 1500, and 1600. When we where out on Saturday. Most of them had multiple pieces of steel up.

Ok. I just went out to check it out. Was raining pretty good so maybe I couldn't see the other gongs due to limited visibility, and I didn't go down range for a closer visual. It just sucks that the vandalism has already started at a brand new facility!

We'll isn't that sad, after all the effort and hard work that people put in. Was there on Monday and did notice the benches, but did notice the 9mm brass, not sure what they would be shooting at from up there.

Might be some 9mm carbines? there are no other pieces of steel at the range and 300m isn't that far. Just a challenge. Besides, if a guy went out with his pistols and found no pistol targets, there is nothing unsafe about discharging a handgun from a long range berm.

That road gets might sketchy if it is raining though. Probably a good idea that you didn't go down it. We brought a quad to go check targets and hits. The only real turn arounds are behind the 1000 and all the way at the 1600, but it slopes down so may end up holding water.
